Peaceful

This is a very simple campground but just what we wanted. Pack in pack out, clean and well maintained sites, the only sound birdsong. Helpful camp host.

Beautiful campground, but no water and therefore a bit overpriced

A very nice campground with first-come, first-served sites for $20 a night. The internet reception ranges from okay to excellent, depending on the site. The pit toilets are impeccable – they really couldn't be cleaner. Unfortunately, there is no water or trash station. However, you can refill portable water affordably at the Hydration Station in Durango or for free at the Durango Montessori School. I think $20 is a bit too expensive for the campground, but it is still appealing due to its clean pit toilets and very nice sites.

Boondocking camping

Camp Host is very friendly and helpful. This is a pack in pack out camp ground with vault/pit toilet. No water or shower. Sites have picnic table and fire pit with grill. Access to camp ground is on a rock dirt road that goes from single to double lane off and on. I drove a 21foot bus with a 16x7 tandem axle trailer.

Average camping

Just your typical camping. Hillside views visible to few sites. Decent cell service for Verizon. Beautiful ride back down.

Nice shady camp ground

Very sweet camp hosts that provided water. Clean bathrooms and large camp spots. There is horse/cattle stalls if you need. High elevation and lots of shade. Was a little chilly at night in early may. Close to nice climbing off the 550. Also close to above ground hot spring.

Perfect base camp!

We loved this campsite. The bathrooms are currently open and super clean! It’s also a great spot to set up base and go straight to the trails for hiking and dirt biking. Great hammock trees and you get the feel of being out in the middle of the nowhere while actually being pretty close to town if needed.

The host is very friendly. It's a smaller campsite. It was not very busy when we were there...I liked that. There was plenty of firewood to collect in the area. It was $18 a night. My phone had some service. I liked that it was pretty quick to get to from Durango (about 30min).

Great access and trails!

We stayed here for about 4 nights while trying to find my mom and apartment in Durango. It is first come, first serve. There are picnic tables and lots of resident cows (and super cute babies!). From what we heard, weekends can get crowded... We had some "red - necky" locals as neighbors with VERY noisy kids. Pit toilets are available, but full of flies. It was awesome though because several trails leave from the area, so you can go for nice evening hikes. These trails are also mountain bike friendly!

Free camping outside of Durango

Awesome campground that's free! It's only 10 mins from downtown Durango and is so beautiful and quiet. Great hiking trails around too.
