Access requires carrying gear from the parking area to your designated site, with rough terrain leading to this walk-in campground along the Arkansas River. Colorado Parks & Wildlife manages the facility within Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, charging $28 per night plus vehicle pass fees for non-passholders. The setup includes basic amenities like toilets, picnic tables, and trash service, with campfires and pets both permitted.
A boat ramp provides direct river access for fishing and kayaking, while the open terrain offers little natural shade. Cell service reaches the area, and campers can reserve sites in advance. Americus Dispersed Camping sits less than half a mile away for those preferring a different setup. The combination of water access and carry-in requirements tends to filter for visitors specifically drawn to riverside activities.

Railroad Bridge is located north of the town of Buena Vista. Traditionally, this site has been a popular river access point for boaters and gold-panners alike. It also is located fairly close to some of the better-known climbing in the region.

Our campgrounds are spread throughout our 152-mile-long park along Highways 24, 285, and 50.
All campgrounds are open 365 days a year, barring severe weather.
AHRA campgrounds do not have any hook-ups or potable water.
All AHRA overnight campers outside of developed camping areas must use a portable toilet system and fire pan.
