Sitting above the Arkansas River on a forested bench just outside Buena Vista, this private campground occupies a narrow strip between the highway and the river canyon. The "Rim" in the name is accurate: the water is audible from camp, but reaching it requires a walk down a path to the riverbank. Sites are level side to side, shaded by fir and other conifers, and spaced closely enough that crowding is noticeable during busy summer weekends.
Highway noise is a consistent trade-off. The campground sits only a few feet from high-speed traffic, which reviewers mention as the main drawback alongside the otherwise low-key atmosphere. What campers consistently praise is the cleanliness and the owner's attentiveness. As Adam P. puts it, "He keeps it clean and doesn't take any crap from anyone." Full hookup sites run around $43-$50 after tax, with 30-amp pull-throughs available for rigs up to 60 feet. Cell service works here, and WiFi is on-site.
The campground runs April through October and accepts reservations, which matters on summer Saturdays when dispersed sites in the surrounding national forest fill early. Firewood is available to purchase on-site. Nearby gold panning along the Arkansas adds an activity option beyond the mountain biking trails that draw many visitors to the Buena Vista area. Campers wanting more space or a different setting can look at Americus Dispersed Camping or Railroad Bridge Campground as alternatives.

All of our camp sites feature a picnic table as well as a fire pit, so groups large or small will have no trouble roasting marshmellows around the fire or eating dinner together at the table. All of the campsites are backed against the forest, giving a more natural atmosphere, as well as giving you a chance to see plenty of cute chipmunks, cotton tails, and humming birds.

Cabin sleeps 2 people on queen size bed. This is a beautiful, knotty pine 'primitive' cabin overlooking the Arkansas River. No electric or water. Price includes use of bath house and all other park facilities.
