Depends on what you value

I value space, privacy, value and and quality of the area.  This is a old campground purchased by a multi park company.  It is on a twisty, multi curved 2 lane about 7 miles from downtown Durango.  It is in what is/was a beautiful small canyon with numerous aspen and other trees.  It has a creek which flows part of the year.  That said, it is crowded, with your neighbors sewer connection next to your picnic table.  The spaces are short.  If your RV/toad  or travel trailer plus pickup is much over 48 feet, you'll be out in the road.  They WILL put you in too small a space.  My pickup, parked overnight was damaged by someone trying to make the too tight turn at the end of the campground.  The beauty of the place is totally compromised by not just the rv spaces but multiple cabins dotting the hills around and tent sites, etc. etc.  If you value quality of experience , this is not the place for you.

Review for tent sites #1 to #3

The tent space#2 that we stayed in was barely a site. Carved out of the slope, the quite small site was not flat, limiting the way we could sleep.

The ground was covered with coarse wood chips– hardly an ideal surface to place a tent on. Both#1 and#3 sites seemed to be in the middle of the drive, making you feel like you were intruding just to leave the site.

#1 was also small and delineated with the same wood chips on the ground. Glad we didn’t get stuck there.

The larger RV/camper sites appeared to be quite nice. The pool was a welcome benefit.

Small hidden gem

A small but mighty campground… pull thru, back in and tent camping. Site 16 is the best…it doesn’t have sewer but you basically have a double site to your self. They offer 10% military discount…excellent WiFi, a small pool, bath house and laundromat… it’s about average price for area…($150ish) for mid week stay….very quiet…no playground for kids. Oh there is also a small stream that runs thru .

So woodsy!

We have a tent on our Truck and had a great spot! It was very woodsy, and secluded! It was quiet a hike up and down a hill to go to the bathrooms. I loveeee that they have a dog park! I was super bummed you can't have a normal fire pit, you can only rent a propane one. We will be back for sure!!!

Awesome campground near downtown Durango

Just a couple miles from downtown Durango, CO

A wonderful spot. Great staff. Good wi-fi in an area with poor cell service. Creekside spots available if you reserve in advance (we didn’t).

Overall 10 out of 10!

Disappointing experience

Stayed here one night after being in a Forest Service campground nearby. This campground was crowded, the hosts were not friendly, and we wouldn't stay here again. The info on the Dyrt was enticing, but we were disappointed.

1 night in Durango

Small campground, sites are nice but most do not give much privacy, which in this beautiful setting would be nice.

Adorable campground

What an adorable little campground. Sites are nestled in the trees. Lots of extra activities to do at the campgrounds. The staff could not be more friendly.

Great family run campground

Clearly the family puts a lot of work into running a nice place. Our spot was good, though hook ups were on the wrong side of our camper. Showers and bathrooms are well maintained. Office hours are a bit quirky, but checking in was easy with our paperwork ready for us outside. Solid 4 stars. 4.5 if it would let me.

Great hidden Jem- found it word of mouth

Great spot away from the road. Steep hill into the campsite- but close to town if you have a toad/truck. We didn’t explore much but seems like a place just to hangout in your small COVID bubble blissfully.

Quick stay

We decided to do a quick overnight here so that we could spend a day in Durango. It’s a cute little campground and we had a spot nestled in the trees which was nice. The only ding that I’d give this place is that there may be some power issues depending on the site. Thank God we had the surge protector and that I tested the outlet before plugging into the RV. The monitor indicated reverse polarity so we ended up having to move to another site. Always check your hookups before settling in. Otherwise, this is a great little spot for easy access to Durango.

Love the creek

Very nice campground with a creek running through it. Bonus if you can get the creek side so you hear it all night. Well kept grounds. Very quiet and shady. Would definitely stay here again.

Nice w/ lots of shade

Great camp sites for pull thru, back in and tents. Several cabins, bathrooms & showers also available, but closed our week (scary virus). Nice, clean, non-heated pool was a plus. Friendly, helpful campsite hosts. Trash pickup 10:30-11:30AM every day. No bears our week. Campground goes dark by 9:00PM. Very friendly folks our week. Creek contained minimal water, but expect it is nice when it’s “running.” 5 min drive to Durango; lots of hikes, drives & activities in the vicinity. Consider driving (carefully) to Ouray, very beautiful views and overlooks. Will return.

creek side camping and a pool!

We loved Lightner Creek. The creek was great, the pool was welcome relief for the kids and we enjoyed talking to fellow campers visiting from around the country and England! Hosts were kind and informative and the location was close to town and the places we wanted to visit. Clean restrooms and campground. We'd stay again!
