Hope they have better camp hosts now

We camped here August 2024. It was absolutely beautiful, with a creek running by each tent campsite. We had booked a walk-in site(site 12) without realizing it and we were hoping to change sites, but the posts on each site were not up to date and the camp host was MIA for hours. We only learned that the reservations were not correct when we started setting up in a site that said it was available but then someone showed up with a reservation for it. Our site was lovely and quiet, but for a single night it was a lot of work to drag all our stuff out to it from the parking spot. If the camp host had been available we could have potentially switched sites, but we never were able to contact them and had no cell service to call anyone. The campground itself was amazing, I just wish we would have had a better camp host experience.

If I were to camp here again, I would book site 8 for my tent! It's very close to the creek and you park at your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Guanella Pass Campground located and at what elevation?

Guanella Pass Campground is situated along the scenic Guanella Pass in Colorado, between the towns of Georgetown and Grant. The campground sits at a high elevation in the Rocky Mountains, typically above 10,000 feet. This alpine location offers beautiful mountain views and access to numerous hiking trails in the surrounding Arapaho National Forest. The high elevation means cooler temperatures even in summer months, so pack accordingly even for August camping trips.

Can I tow an RV or trailer up to Guanella Pass Campground?

Towing an RV or trailer to Guanella Pass Campground can be challenging. The road up Guanella Pass features steep grades, tight curves, and high elevation driving. While some smaller trailers or camper vans might manage the journey, large RVs are not recommended. The campground itself has limited parking and primarily offers tent camping sites rather than developed RV sites. Some walk-in sites require parking in a separate area and carrying gear to your campsite. For RV camping, consider alternative campgrounds at lower elevations in the Georgetown or Grant areas.

What amenities and facilities are available at Guanella Pass Campground?

Guanella Pass Campground offers basic facilities for a rustic mountain camping experience. The campground features tent sites with picnic tables and fire rings. A natural creek runs alongside many of the tent campsites, providing a peaceful backdrop. The campground has a camp host, though availability may vary. Vault toilets are available on-site. There's no running water, electricity, or shower facilities, so campers should come prepared with their own water supply and other essentials.
