Eight miles southwest of Georgetown along the paved Guanella Pass Scenic Byway, Clear Lake Campground sits at 10,000 feet elevation in aspen forest within Arapaho National Forest. Despite its name, the campground doesn't offer lakeside sites—Clear Lake itself lies a short walk down the road at a separate day-use area.
The small loop contains eight first-come, first-served sites with standard picnic tables, fire rings, and bear boxes. Sites vary considerably in size, with some accommodating larger tents while others work better for smaller setups. The 15-foot RV length limit and tight internal road make this more suitable for tent campers and van travelers. Clean vault toilets and a hand-pump water source serve the campground, though visitors should bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
"Could hear the hum of nearby water plant, but it was not bad," notes Anna S. about the ambient noise from nearby infrastructure. The campground's elevation provides cooler temperatures than lower options, and its location offers quick access to popular 14er trailheads including Mount Bierstadt, just 15 minutes away by car.
Weekend crowds can fill the campground quickly during summer months, with steady traffic from campers seeking available spots. For those wanting more remote options, Guanella Pass sits higher up the scenic byway.
