About
National Forest
Stunner campground sits at 9700-foot in elevation beside the Alamosa River, two miles below the top of Stunner Pass. There are 5 campsites with tables, fire pits, a vault-type toilet, and adequate parking.
There is no water supply, so plan to bring your own. Firewood is limited. Convenient trailer spaces available. The Alamosa River is nearby for fishing. Unfortunately, naturally acidic water severely limits fishing in the Alamosa River between Stunner Campground and Terrace Reservoir. Big game hunting is possible.
The ghost town of Stunner is just east of the campground. This was a mining town that failed, due to nonproducing mines and transportation problems. Parts of the town are private property, so pack out all your trash and observe posted no-trespassing signs.

Nice, but not a "stunner"
Campsite gets its name from the nearby ghost town. The views aren't stunning, though. Nice and clean campground. We hiked the trail near the river for a little while, and that was nice. There were tons of bugs that did not give a darn about our multiple citronella candles or campfire smoke. They were very obnoxious, so we ended up crawling into the tent and reading. The bugs weren't bad in the open, but we picked a site set in the trees. Would definitely come back again because there were only a few other folks there.
Nice quiet campground
On a very busy weekend in the area didn’t have any trouble finding a spot 3 of the 5 were open. Lots of space between the sites as well. Were there during the Perseids meteor shower and the clear dark sky was perfect for viewing. CG has a private dispersed feel to it but each site has nice fire rings with grates, a large table and the bathroom was nice and clean especially for a CG without a host. Will definitely stay here again when in the area. Make sure and walk up on the hill on the way in the park for a nice view of the river bottom, would have been an even better spot to stargaze if we would have known about it the night before.
