Shady & quiet

This campground has a variety of sites including some pull-through spots suitable for trailers. The campground is nestled into the south side of the canyon so between that and all the firs, many of the sites are in shade until late in the day or just about all day. There has never been a host present the times that I have been here. Bear activity is not uncommon.

The campground is near the trailhead for a couple of beautiful hikes. The Dark Canyon trail runs along Anthracite Creek and is particularly lovely. There are also some sweet tent sites along the trail for backpackers. Be aware that people do bring horses on these trails so if you have dogs off leash you need to have good recall. Also the area is wetter than many places in Colorado so expect some mud on the trail in the Spring, and from May into mid-June there are ticks.

Great little spot for all. Tents, RVs, trailers, hammocks!!

Great little place in the Gunnison National Forest. Had my folks go late morning and secure a spot. I came with my car around 5pm but I'd say best time to secure is between 9am-2pm on Friday. Obvs if you can get there Thursday or earlier you'll have no problems.

Each spot has huge picnic table, fire pit with grill, flat ground for tents, tons of trees for hammocks, we have a roof top tent so there was plenty of space in the car spot. Bathrooms on site, firewood for sale ($10), dumpsters for trash. Host on site (Kathy) to help with fees, firewood, questions.

Great hiking in the ragged wilderness, trail and another bathroom about 10 min walk from the campground. Great hike along a river (not sure which one) but we came early June and the river was raging. Couple pictures from that hike attached.
