Brush Creek Dispersed - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Great spot right out of town that is secluded with awesome views! Recommend picking up pizza at Secret Stash. We got to the second camp area with a Revel, anything further (marked 4x4) would need to be smaller or have some after market mods. Can’t recommend enough. No cell service for AT&T or T-Mobile.

This is really great dispersed camping close to Crested Butte and likewise very popular. It switched to designated dispersed only in 2021 (with numbered sites). All first come first serve, recommend arriving early (midweek) to guarantee a spot in the summer. Some of the spots on the road to get to the spots farther back are a little rough.

I landed one of the more secluded spots at Brush Creek Campground, site #3.  Great back-in spot that was mostly level.  The port-o-john was very clean and much appreciated.

If you have a car that can handle steep pits and holes, you can make it farther up to the overlook sites. But the first couple coldasack sites had a nice view but very close together. Did not realize that when coming here, but was a nice stay and others were close but nice neighbors. Otherwise a good spot to stay overnight and or mountain biking would be a great for this spot.

Easy to access. Very basic. A few spots available - maybe not as spread out as I would have liked. Definitely more a bikers paradise than hikers. There weren’t really any trails. I walked a bit towards Crested Butte on a 4x4 road. And wound up in a herd of cows. The cows also venture in the campsite. They are everywhere. The river is very close and was refreshing. Wish I had taken pictures but I didnt.

Hard to complain about a free campsite amir 15 minutes away from the center of crested Butte. Very primitive pit toilet with no other amenities but lots of great sites to choose from. One has to travel down a dirt road for a few miles but it is in good shape.

Absolutely beautiful campsite with amazing views of the mountains, river, trees... it was like out of a postcard! Very easily accessible, with small outhouse style bathrooms around the sites. Will definitely be going back

If you continue down the road I found two separate dispersed sites with porta potties. Both have markers for where you should camp and some have great fire pits with grates. If you pass through about 1 mule if private land your in the right track.

Travel a few miles down Brush Creek Trail. After passing Strand Hill MTB trail you will get to a split in the road. The left turn will take you up a deeply rutted 4WD road towards Teocalli Ridge MTB trail. Lots of beautiful camping on this road. But it can be tough sledding when it is wet. If you stay to the right you will get to a flat where many people will camp. You can get a smaller RV/Trailer/Sprinter here very easily. If you are intrepid - and have a good 4WD with some clearance - you can continue through the creek and up the hill where superb, quiet dispersed camping exists.
