Within the Nimrod Recreation Area managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, Wards Crossing Dispersed provides free camping along the Fourche La Fave River. The large site accommodates multiple RVs and features a dirt, sand, and gravel surface with a fire ring, lantern pole, and picnic table. A boat launch sits adjacent to the camping area, though erosion has made direct riverbank access challenging from the site itself.
Campers reach the area via gravel River Road, which has some potholes but remains accessible to small RVs, truck campers, and towables. Those approaching from the south must cross Wards Crossing Bridge, which has a 3-ton weight limit. The site works well for campgrounds around Plainview visitors planning fishing or kayaking trips on the river.
