    Lake Claiborne State Park Campground

    Fantastic facilities

I camped on two occasions while in north LA on business. Bath houses are new, clean and climate controlled. Plenty of sites to choose from when I stayed though all of the waterfront sites were taken. Family friendly, not rowdy. I’d take young kids without hesitation if mine weren’t grown.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

    Beautiful beautiful beautiful place

This is not my first time to visit but rapidly becoming a favorite. Each trip is different and I find different ways to get more out of the park. They have great hiking trails, sites by the lake, and now I’ve discovered the biking trails too. There’s disc golf, a tennis center and multiple playgrounds. You can camp out in the campground or stay in a cabin or lodge. They also have canvas tents on wooden decks that are super cute. I stayed in the RV for my visit and have both water and electric at my site.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

    Resort like State Park

Lots of amenities. Tennis courses, disc golf course, hiking/biking trails, swimming pool, cabins, lodges, several playgrounds, picnic areas, pavilions & WiFi. Very reasonable sites for $23/night unless you’re in the lakeside premium sites which are more. Laundry room next to the bath house and playground. I will definitely be back.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

Beautiful state park with something for everyone

This lakeside state park has RV and tent camping, cabins, lodges and YURTS available. There are also day use pavilions available for family reunions, employee barbecues or birthday celebrations. You can also rent a meeting room in the visitors center.

There are lots of recreational opportunities which include hiking, biking, fishing, canoe and kayak rentals, tennis courts and an 18-hole disc golf course. They also have a large hiking trail system. Closed right now but available Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend they also have a really large swimming pool. A tornado hit the park in March 2021 and there’s still some trees down and a brief section of the trail I walked on today that wasn’t accessible but it is an easy detour amazing how much they have restored.

    Lake Claiborne State Park Campground

    Stunning Views with Great Amenities

We tent camp here in early Spring in the camping area #2 and comeback weekend after weekend. Many wonderfully marked hiking trails, two of the best frisbe golf courses in Louisiana. There's a nice little beach where the kids can play and a playground area as well. The bathrooms are clean and warm (welcome in the winter and spring). The pavement is well kept and great for kids to ride bikes or scooters. The King of the Moutain Trail is my favorite becaues of it's wooden bridge and tiny waterfall.

    awesome park

Really nice like a resort. Tennis courts, swimming pool (closed for winter), horse shoe pit, laundry mat, disc golf, and awesome clean bathrooms. Very nice sites and BEAUTIFUL cabins. Great piers on a very nice lake with big, beautiful cypress trees. Just a beautiful, hilly campground on a gorgeous lake.. Lots of trails. They have been doing some improvements such as cutting trees while we were there but an awesome park!

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

    Nice!

Very nice state park for its size. Ice storm has had its way here but they are cleaning up nicely. Bath houses stayed super clean all weekend. Park hosts were very nice. Walking trails were very clean around lake with TentRR glamping being added. 4 lake front premium spots. We were kicking enough to have one. Piers are super nice. Place was packed this weekend but still very nice and quiet at night.

Both parks feature elevated terrain with rolling hills unusual for this region of the South, creating diverse hiking experiences across varied elevations. The parks remain operational year-round with seasonal adjustments to facility availability during winter months.

What to do

Disc golf adventures: Lake D'Arbonne State Park maintains multiple disc golf courses through wooded terrain. "Really nice like a resort. Tennis courts, swimming pool (closed for winter), horse shoe pit, laundry mat, disc golf, and awesome clean bathrooms," notes Steve S. about the recreational options.

Waterfront fishing: Several campsites at Lake Claiborne State Park include private piers extending into the water. "We stayed here at site 14. Had a long pier over the water, and plenty of space between campers. Not level ground, but we managed with enough blocks to get it level," explains Cat R.

Winter hiking: The trails remain accessible during cooler months when temperatures are more comfortable for exploring. "The park is beautiful, especially right now with all the changing colors of the trees," reports Alayna J. about Lake D'Arbonne during fall, adding that park rangers often "helped us build a fire and gather firewood."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Lake D'Arbonne State Park maintains high standards for its bathhouses and common areas. "The shower house and bathrooms were clean too. We camped in a tent and they have sand pits for the tents to sit in," shares Alayna J., highlighting the dedicated tent camping areas.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting provides opportunities to observe local species in their habitat. "Whitetail deer, owls, fish/gar, butterflies, dragonflies, fireflies, and much more! Sites right on the Lake," writes Penny A. about the diverse wildlife at Lake Claiborne.

Off-season tranquility: Visiting during weekdays or non-peak seasons offers a more secluded glamping experience in El Dorado area parks. What you should know

Connectivity limitations: Cell service and internet access can be unreliable throughout the area. "Wi-Fi did not work anywhere in park (signal broadcasted fine just no connection to internet) AT&T is non-existent," reports Brent C. about Lake Claiborne State Park.

Site leveling requirements: Many camping spots in the region require leveling equipment due to the hilly terrain. "Not level ground, but we managed with enough blocks to get it level. This was a back in site," notes Cat R. about the topography challenges at lakefront sites.

Plant hazards: Watch for poison ivy and other irritating vegetation around campsites. "The only really bad thing was that there was poison ivy all around our campsite," warns Sam B., highlighting the importance of identifying and avoiding this common plant.

Tips for camping with families

Staffing support: Park rangers provide assistance beyond basic park maintenance. "The locals and park rangers are also very nice. I locked my keys in my car and the park ranger helped me get ahold to a person to unlock it," shares Alayna J. about the helpful staff at Lake D'Arbonne.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Frank Anthony RV Park and other facilities near El Dorado offer different utility connections depending on location. Rained the entire weekend but we still had a blast on the trails and docks," reports James T., emphasizing the importance of proper equipment for unexpected weather conditions.

Camping area selection: Choose camping areas based on specific needs and preferences.
