What campers like
Privacy between sites: Many campsites at Petit Jean State Park offer good spacing and natural barriers. "It is so well laid out that it was really nice to be there. We ended up in site #30. It had a beautiful view of the lake," explains a camper at Petit Jean State Park.
Clean facilities: Hot Springs National Park KOA maintains well-kept shower and bathroom facilities. "The campground was nice and clean and quiet. Good place to rest up before continuing on with our journey," notes a recent visitor to Hot Springs National Park KOA.
Lake access: Catherine's Landing offers direct water access from many sites. "I was in lakefront site 123 for one night but would have liked to stay longer. The water front sites near the boat dock were my favorite and easy to back into," reports a camper at Catherine's Landing.
Year-round access: Most campgrounds in the Bryant area remain open throughout all seasons, with winter camping offering more solitude. "We stayed here for a couple of nights to visit the Hot Springs and it was the perfect location. They were super nice and accommodating letting us make a reservation for that same day pretty late in the day!"
What you should know
Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "This SP will fill up quickly in the spring and fall, reservations are recommend," advises a camper at Lake Catherine State Park.
Limited cell service: Some campgrounds have minimal connectivity. "There was only one other camper in this section of the CG while we were there. AT&T coverage was basically nonexistent with 1 bar of LTE service but very little if any throughput," reports a camper at DeGray Lake.
Site leveling challenges: Many sites require equipment for proper RV leveling. "Many sites are unlevel and require significant leveling chocks to get it truly level," notes a camper at Little Rock North KOA, describing a common issue at several area campgrounds.
Weather considerations: The region experiences high humidity and occasional heavy rains. "The days before we arrived, the area was hit by torrential rains. The weather cleared and I hiked down to the Cedar Falls trail to see the falls. The video is of the roaring falls. There is not typically so much flow."
Tips for camping with families
Boat rentals for kids: Multiple parks offer affordable rental options for family water activities. "Lake Catherine offers many different outdoor options close to Hot Springs. The park has a couple hiking options along with the lake activities," shares a visitor at Lake Catherine State Park.
Kid-friendly amenities: Catherine's Landing features multiple youth-focused facilities. "Kid friendly. Great upkeep and sites that are easily accessible. Playground, splash pad, and pool. We were not able to access the pool because of the time of year, but we will definitely be back in warmer weather."
Wildlife viewing opportunities: Morning and evening wildlife sightings are common at several parks. "A paradise for everyone! The property is so peaceful and quiet. We came with little kids and they explored their hearts out. Along the river there's a trail and fun places for the kids to play and play," explains a visitor to Catherine's Landing.
Yurt camping options: For families wanting comfort with outdoor access, yurt camping near Bryant, Arkansas provides an ideal solution. "We took my nieces on a weekend trip in our camper to Lake Catherine State Park. Our campsite backed up to the lake, so we had a great view. The campsite was a great size and well spaced out from our neighbors."
Tips from RVers
Full hookup availability: Several campgrounds offer complete RV services. "All sites have water, 50/30 amp, sewer, cable, and wifi. Fire pits and picnic tables accompany all sites," notes a camper describing Catherine's Landing.
RV site selection: Choose sites based on shade needs and seasonal considerations. "Very little shade would be rough in summer months without shade tents, awnings, etc," warns a camper about certain loops at Petit Jean State Park.
Site spacing considerations: RV sites vary significantly in privacy levels. "Easy access for a KOA, we have a cyclone 4270 (44' triple axel 5th wheel) which is pushing it for most KOA's. We landed a pull through just behind the office and on way out of curve in road so we slide right in. Neighbors are close but nice as was the staff."
Terrain navigation: Some parks have challenging internal road systems. "The CG roads are paved, but narrow, winding, and fairly bumpy in spots. Few if any of the sites in this section of the CG were anywhere close to level and our site, one of the few pull-throughs, was one of the worst."
