Cove Lake Complex

Boating and fishing enthusiasts will find direct lake access at Cove Lake Complex, a US Forest Service campground that operates as a base for exploring Mount Magazine's trails. The facility sits within Ozark National Forest, offering boat rentals, a small beach area, and stocked fishing opportunities alongside traditional camping amenities.

Sites range from lakefront positions to slightly elevated spots with water views. "Sites are extremely spacious and well spaced from each other," notes Taryn S., who camped with a large group across adjacent sites. The campground maintains a compact feel with tightly packed sites, though mature pine trees provide substantial shade coverage. Some sites offer direct lake proximity while others sit back from the water.

Electric hookups serve RV campers, while tent campers can choose from drive-in, walk-in, or boat-in access options. The facility includes clean vault toilets, drinking water, showers, and a dump station. On-site concessions and boat rentals eliminate the need for outside equipment. Wildlife activity includes barred owls calling at night, and the lake supports swimming and water sports alongside fishing.

Road conditions can deteriorate after rain, particularly affecting access to Mount Magazine trails that cross nearby. The campground experiences mosquito activity during summer months due to lake proximity. Cell service proves unreliable, with Verizon showing no coverage according to recent visitors. New management took over operations in 2024, bringing hands-on attention to facility maintenance.

The season runs from early April through late December, with reservations available for peak periods. For additional options, campers can explore places to camp around Paris or consider Mount Magazine State Park Campground for a different mountain camping experience.

Campers regularly cited spacious sites, clean facilities, and abundant family activities including lake recreation and hiking. Numerous guests pointed out the peaceful setting, though some noted potential crowding during busy periods.

Quiet and wooded

Nice quiet campground with a nice lake, vault toilets, no electricity or water Wildlife in the area. We were able to listen to a Barred Owl before going to sleep, mature pine trees giving a lot of shade

Hidden gem in the Ozarks

Fantastic smaller campground minutes from Mount Magazine. It seems to be overshadowed by much larger, better known places like Devils Den, so it's fairly quiet even when it's 'busy.' We also learned that it has new management as of this year (2024), a young family that's extremely hands-on.

We stayed as a group (three families with 7 kiddos total, ranging from 6-15), across two adjacent sites: 1 & 3. You could see the lake from our sites, but they don't sit right over the lake like some do. With so many kids in our group, we actually wanted that. Sites are extremely spacious and well spaced from each other, and would feel even more private later in the season when the trees are full. Bathrooms are simple pit toilets, but clean and well-maintained.

Boat rentals right onsite, concessions, even a small beach area! We will 100% be back. No cell service whatsoever with Verizon.

Beautiful campsites on a mountain lake

Great place to camp, been coming here my entire life and it has changed very little in that time. Boating, fishing, swimming, cabins available, lots of trails to hike. Just minutes from Mt Magazine and the town of Paris. Friendly staff.

Back up campground to Mount Magazine

Located at the base drive up to Mount Magazine this is a good back up to the state park campground. It is a typical Arkansas campground but it does have decent bathrooms where you're not afraid to step into and has a camp host. It is based on a "lake" so beware of mosquitoes in the summer. We use it as a base to hike up to Mount Magazine as the trail crosses the road and heads up to the top of Mount Magazine state park. The trail is out of the ordinary for the region and takes you have some washouts and up the mountain. If it has been raining, beware and check your weather.

Lovely lake

One of many lovely campgrounds in the Ozarks and National Forests. There is swimming, boating, (stocked) fishing, hiking, and pretty drives. Absolutely beautiful lake surrounded by green that would be incredible in the fall!

Yay: canoe rentals on site, lots to do in this park/campground but still feels in touch with nature,

Nay: can be crowded, campsites are not spacious

Surprise: really really good ice cream! Great sunrises.

Nice

Cove Creek is a nice area. All the camp sites are close to the lake. The sites are rocky but level and are tightly packed in. The facility is clean and well maintained. It is close to Mt Mag and offers a lot of family friendly things to do. Plenty of shade.

Cove Lake

Cove lake use to be my all time favorite place to go. We have a huge family and we would all meet there a few times a summer. Their food was awesome. The camping was good. But we love the lake and renting boats and tubes.vl
