Painted Rock Petroglyph Campground — Lower Sonoran Field Office

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

A paved road runs 11 miles from I-8 to this BLM-managed campground in the Sonoran Desert west of campgrounds around Gila Bend, where 60 large, spread-out sites give campers plenty of room. Reservations and payment go through recreation.gov, with a $1 service fee added; senior pass holders pay around $5 per night. Verizon users report three bars of cell service. A volunteer ranger has been observed on-site during the day, and the adjacent petroglyph site gives the stop a reason to linger past checkout.

Fee Info

The fee for the standard, accessible and group sites is $8.00 per vehicle per night- all sites are first-come, first-serve. This is a Scan and Pay campground. There are no refunds, modifications, cancellations, or other fee changes allowed with Scan and Pay payments. This system is the same as putting cash into a fee tube and cannot be refunded.

Great find last minute!

Pulled in just before sunset. Previous reviews totally accurate. Lots of space and plenty of sites available. Surprised to find decent cell service. Great stars. Will check out the petroglyphs in the am.

Neat

Just stayed one night had nice sunset/rise. Plenty of area to ride. Vol. Ranger was on site during the day.

Dark and quiet, well off the road

Saw a faded sign on I-8, so followed it. Good paved road 11 miles to the campsite. The day-use area is all new construction, 60 campsites are large and spread out. Pay via the rec.gov app, add $1 service fee. With 1/2 of for senior discount, I paid $5. Good Verizon service, 3 bars

SiteChose a site near the day use, there were two other campers off in the distance.
