SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Road noise is the defining factor at Old Corral, a free dispersed site in Tonto National Forest along the Apache Trail corridor. Motorcycles and vehicles on the adjacent road generate significant noise through the night, making it more practical as a one-night stop than a multi-day base. Cell coverage at the site itself runs weak on Verizon and AT&T, though walking uphill behind the corral improves signal considerably. Reviewers have also noted broken glass, garbage, and human waste scattered across the grounds, so come prepared to assess conditions on arrival. Spots on the far side of the corral offer slightly more separation from traffic, but require a high-clearance vehicle to handle the rutted access. Canyon Lake Overlook sits less than a mile northeast for campers weighing nearby alternatives.

Trash, broken glass and human waste

This was an open spot at night, and we needed to park, so we did, and saw the place covered in broken bottles, paint brushes, garbage, and up the hill someone has been using the bathroom all over the grounds and leaving nasty toilet paper all over. The horse pen is full of broken bottles and empty gun casings, you can see that people come up here to trash the place.

Free BLM / Listed on Google maps as a museum

You can find this spot on Google maps listed as a museum under "Apache Trail Corral" or "Old Corral," not sure why!

Very weak, almost unusable verizon or AT&T at site itself, but if you walk up the hill behind the corral you get excellent service.

Motorcycles and cars racing up and down the road almost all night, very loud. Good for an overnight but too close to the busy road and too loud to stay longer.

If you go down the other side of the corral there are a couple more spots that are a little more secluded, but you’ll need a high clearance vehicle to navigate the ruts.
