Dispersed Site Near Tonto National Forest

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Dispersed Site Near Tonto National Forest, near Apache Junction, Arizona, offers a rugged outdoor experience for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. This location is all about getting back to nature, with the freedom to set up camp in undeveloped areas surrounded by stunning desert landscapes.

While the site is free and allows for campfires, it’s important to note that amenities are pretty much non-existent. Visitors have mentioned the lack of drinking water, toilets, and trash disposal, so come prepared to pack out what you bring in. Some campers have enjoyed the views of the Superstition Mountains and appreciated the proximity to local cafes and restaurants, making it a decent spot for those who want a mix of wilderness and convenience.

However, recent reviews indicate that the area has faced some challenges, including closures for restoration efforts. Campers have reported rough access roads and litter, which can detract from the experience. If you’re looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors, just be ready for a bit of a rough ride and to embrace the wild side of camping.

Area Closed now due to "homeless problems"

I live in the area and the BLM finally closed this area along with other areas nearby due to junk, abandoned vehicles, vicious dogs etc. It will become the Apache Junction and Goldfield Recreation area. Closed completely for 2 yr for vegetation restoration and when it reopens it will provide residents with OHV and Horse trails along with Staging areas.

Don’t bother

We stayed here a few nights ago in our truck camper. We arrived at night and were very tired or we would have gone elsewhere. The road in was very rough and had huge holes. There was garbage dumped everywhere and some looked like they made it their permanent residence. Awful and did not feel safe.

Sitedrove in maybe 250 feet from main road and parked to the right.
