Beautiful and Alone

There are many dispersed areas around Sunset Crater Volcano NM. I stayed off FS road 545B. There was a meadow nearby with a lot of Ponderosa pines. FS 545B is the first road to the left as you leave route 89 heading toward SCVNM. Only one here. If you stop by the SCVNM visitor center, ask the…

Red Rocks Heaven

This place is magical. We drove 6.7 miles off the paved turn off to an amazing overlook. The sunset against the red rocks is fantastic. Well worth the drive for free camping. No facilities so pack it in and pack it out but there are two ancient dwelling sites that are open from 9:30-3:00 each day…

Our Go To!

Whenever my boyfriend and I don’t want to spend the time looking for another campground or need one to fall back on, this is the place! We have camped here multiple times during various seasons. Very open, free, breath taking views. The beginning is easy to get into but the deeper you get on the…

Everything we needed!

My boyfriend and I love camping even in winter when it’s snowing. We were having the toughest time trying to find somewhere to camp during the winter in Flagstaff and we found this place! Open, free, surrounded by trees, you feel like you’re really camping even though it’s so easy and quick to get…

Perfect for overnight

Had to go a little further than the last "tent" on the app, but found a nice, quiet pullout.

Nice area, good access to Sedona, rough road access

Spent the better part of a week at a group site near the beginning of FR525. Road access near the highway entrance is fair, but gets significantly rougher the farther north you head. Rigs with lower clearance proceed with caution. Verizon cell service was low to fair, with some periods of no…

Amazing views

The road is a soft gravel that you can easily sink in like sand if you’re not careful but my rwd transit did alright! Great place for hiking and at least trying to spot elk

Great views! (Worth the drive)

4.9 miles up a gravel road. Turn left where road forks(sign for Harding Point). Follow this dirt road for 1.75 miles. Stay straight on this dirt road until you hit a couple large camp spots, *do not turn off little roads(we got lost a few times…) Once you reach those open camp spots you can drive…

Good for groups or campervans

Wake up to hot air balloons floating in every direction. There are two main roads that have several pull offs along the way and a roundabout for scoolies, larger RVs or groups. Lots of ATVs also use this land. Apple Maps said the road was closed, but as of December, that was not the case.

So peaceful

This was such a great stop between Phoenix and Sedona! It was so peaceful at night and the stars were insane! In the morning we did a short hike down to a river bed and saw some petroglyphs. Just an amazing experience all around
