Las Vegas Bay Campground — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    Mostly ok

Well the Camphost Bob is amazing. 1/2 of the campers are folks passing through and either keep to themselves or are kind. 1/4 are homeless from Vegas, that kept to themselves and then there was the one bad one that was supposedly passing through that went to jail. Just be mindful of your area and belongings.

Las Vegas Bay Campground — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    So Close, yet So Far

Quiet beautifully maintained campground with a dump station, portable water, spigots near restrooms and flush toilets. Firings and picnic tables at each site. Very few sites for rigs over 26’. A few larger sites are offered, but be certain to check what size can be accommodated. Most sites are wide enough to park a 26’ trailer and tow vehicle side-by-side. Some vegetation but not much shade. This is the desert! One beautiful trail about a mile and a half long starts behind campsite number 74.Just minutes from the city of Henderson with all the shopping you could ask for and a short distance but LOTS of traffic to the Las Vegas Strip. Hoover Dam is about 30 mins and Valley of Fire 1.3 hours.

    Rough road - Amazing scenery

The paved portion of the road is really rough. But after spending the day on the dirt portion, it felt quite luxurious. I saw a few Subarus out there. High clearance would be good and 4x4 helpful. Mostly rocky and slow going for me...maybe need softer shocks.

I arrived a the townsite late so that is where I stayed because I could not make it back to Whitney Pocket. There were 2 others camped there.

Sight seeing was cut short because of the wind. Getting out of the vehicle was always work. Will have to come back when the conditions are better.

    Whitney Pockets, Nevada

Hard to get to, but great winter camp sites

This area is just east of Mesguite Nevada along Gold Butte Road (old mining road that goes many miles into the NE area of Lake Mead.  No water, power or cell phone connection in most areas.  Must have good tires and high clearance.. many pot holes and hard gravel roads in the area.  The area also has several great petroglyph sites.  Great for ATV or side by sides.. lots of equestrian riders in the area as well.

BLM Whitney Pockets - Falling Man Camp

Dispersed camp site at Whitney Pockets area, north of Lake Mead

These are open BLM camp sites.. one of around 25 or so in the immediate area.  None of these camp sites have amenities, no water, no power, no bathrooms.. just open camping.  Some camp sites in the area, those with unobstructed views south to Lake Mead generally have cell phone coverage.. the others do not have any coverage.  We love this area for the colorful red and white sandstone formations the dot the landscape.  Some of these camp sites will accomodate large RVs.. most can accomodate around 30 feet or less.  Must have good suspension.. road into the area is partially paved but has many deep potholes.. the road turns to gravel at Whitney Pocket.

    Very quite and comfortable

I really liked the views! Sites were somewhat different but level and solid. But the whole drive thru the neighbors front yard threw me for a minute until I got the gist of it. Very quite! Gas available for less than five dollars a plus as well! Lake mead is extremely low so, it wasn’t the best place for handicap access. But beautiful scenery!

8 Mile road dispersed camping Lake Mead

While camping at Lake Mead, you can opt to stay in there campground that has electrical hookups, but we prefer to boondock. When you are inside Lake Mead you are able to use the dump station and freshwater to fill up your tanks at Boulder Beach campground.

We love coming here because it is not usually busy and we like our own quiet space. There's also a lot of room for the dogs to run around.

Long washboard road to trashy beaches

8 mile road is open to free dispersed camping for 7 days. There is a couple dumpsters about a 1/4 mile in but that is all for 2.1 miles of terrible washboard road down to the receding water line. No water, toilets, trash cans at beach areas. The limited beach areas tend to be hogged by folks trying to keep other campers at a distance. I found floating trash all along the shore, styerfoam, plastic bottles, ect. Ugh

    Very quite

This campground is very quite but seems to have smaller sites than others. When entering there are few spots to accommodate bigger trailers although some spots you can see where the site has been extended into the dirt. I like the no generator section as it is super quite at night. Quite time starts at 10pm in other sections.

    Great Place to Camp!

Great experience. I arrived late at night and was still able to check in with a pay stub. Even though it’s mid/late November the weather was great! Just take a cool weather sleeping bag and you’ll be good.

This campground is reservable 15 days in advance, but if you missed that deadline, there is first come-first serve camping as well. There were many spots open when I came. When you get here, scout for a spot, remember your site number and license plate info, and then go back to pay at the pay stub center (at the entrance of the campground).

Its $20 a night to camp here. BRING CASH! :)

    No showers, just bathrooms.

    Another great spot!!

Did a day trip here, looking for other areas to be able to set up my mobile office. Awesome views, and half to full cell service/wifi all the way to the water! Water was clear and could see decent sized fish in the shallows. Another start in the boon-docking sash! Only caveat is the trash! Come one fellow campers, whatever happened to picking up and leaving no trace?

Free Spot, pay to enter lake area

There is no specific camp grounds in this area so yoy just have to keep going until you find a spot. The road is primitive and i had issues with fishtailing in the sand so take it slow. The campsite i found was simple and spacious. You could see the lake and it was gorgeous. This particular spot was free, but you still have to pay the fee to get into Lake Mead.

    Every site has amazing views

This campsite is about 10 miles from the Boulder Campground and RV Village. All sites has prefect views of the surrounding mountains. All sites that are situated on the outer rim of the campground, be weary. Most have a good steep decline not to far away from the pavement. I would just be a little careful with kids or dogs. One section does not allow generators. They do have an on site dump station for rigs. No hookups though.

    Beautiful views, clean

The sites are a first come first served basis. There are paved parking pads, concrete table, bbq grill, and fire rings at each site. View of a canyon stream, some coyotes heard at night. There is a restroom with flushable toilets that are clean. There is a free dump station. Rates are $20 per night, $10 for senior or access pass holders.

meh. there are better spots at Lake Mead.

We saw some awesome sunsets here, but I wouldn't say this spot had anything unique about it.  The road is rough, you definitely cannot camp here in the rain.  It's a wash...so that would get dangerous.  I liked that there were some larger bushes than government wash because it broke up the terrain a little.   As other reviews have mentioned, the water isn't really accessible from this location.  There were no other people camping here when we were here, so the privacy was actually really nice.  You could literally walk around naked and it didn't matter.  :)

    Its ok.

There are bathrooms with toilets and sinks.  The sites are a little close together but the views on the outside sites facing the water are incredible.  Spectacular views of the stream.  The campground host is also very nice.  There are trails at one of the campground that are fun to walk.

I saw a coyote in the campground one morning but he ran away when I stood up.  The last time I camped here, someone had a dog that they didn't leash and he kept running into my campground so that was annoying because my dog is afraid of other dogs and we ended up not staying the night because of that.

    cool camp host

it's a little way to the water but it's central for all your exploring needs.

Clean bathrooms and paved roads perfect for bike riding.

    oleanders trees separate your neighbors

each spot has tables and fire rings.

nice size spots for you to park at.

boulder beach is about a 15-minute drive from here and government wash is about 20.

lake las vegas is about 10 minutes

the strip is about 30 mins

    lost to explore for sure

if you don't have a nation rec pass be ready to pay to get in.

    Free camping

Total boon docking and rough roads. But it’s free and you can literally canon where you want... sooo eyyy if you need it than it’s here. At this location you can stay 7 days. It’s a hike to get to the water from here you can’t actually get down to the water so keep that in mind. For me I like the water so it’s not an ideal Spot for me.

Note if you need an actual bathroom at the entrance of government wash you have a bathroom. Included the picture
