Tent-only access defines the experience at Diversion Dam, a free US Forest Service site within Tonto National Forest near Roosevelt, Arizona. Vehicles must stay in the parking lot; campers hike in to reach overnight spots. The day-use area near the lot includes fire pits, tables, and grills, but those spaces are not available for overnight stays. Trailers cannot access the camping areas. A vault toilet building is on-site, and a short staircase leads to an overlook of the dam with informational signage. Sites are rocky and open, with limited shade. This spot works best for self-sufficient tent campers comfortable with a short hike-in and minimal amenities.
