Clear Creek Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

A dirt road runs just across from Clear Creek itself, putting the water within easy walking distance of most sites at this Coconino National Forest campground outside Camp Verde, Arizona. The layout is wide open with sites positioned close together, which means privacy is limited during busy periods. Reviewers consistently flag summer weekends as the noisiest times, while weekday visits in fall tend to draw smaller crowds. A trail runs alongside the creek, and one mountain route leads to an overlook with sightlines across the entire campground.

Sites include cement picnic tables and fire rings with grill surfaces. Big sycamores provide shade across parts of the campground. Drinking water, firewood, and clean vault toilets are available on-site. Electric hookups make it workable for RVs up to 32 feet. The campground is ADA accessible and open year-round, though Mike C. notes conditions can be "downright frosty at night, literally" in late fall and early winter, with daytime temperatures still warm enough for short sleeves. Spring and early fall tend to offer more moderate overnight lows.

Camp Verde sits close enough for supply runs, and the campground host has drawn repeated mentions for being attentive and helpful. Rates run around $18 per night for a tent site, with a discount available for annual pass holders. The adjacent Clear Creek Group site handles larger parties by reservation. Campers who want creek access, a manageable drive from Phoenix, and basic amenities without venturing deep into the backcountry will find this a functional base, though those prioritizing site separation should look for spot 18 near the exit.

Beautiful with a lot of amenities

Beautiful area along the creek. Sites are large but little privacy. Head towards the exit and use site #18, most private and on the creek. Large group site available with reservation. Restrooms, drinking water, fire wood, and dumpster available. Each site has a cement picnic table and fire pit with grill surface.

It is good

Came in on a Tuesday afternoon. There were not many spots available. Vault toilets were clean. There is water. Sites are very close to each other otherwise it would have been better.

Great spot along I17

We stopped there for a night on our way back to Phoenix from Grand Canyon. It was a perfect place, that costs only $9 if you have the annual NP pass ($18 normally for a tent spot). There isn't as much space as in other campsites, but it is a very friendly place with a host Michael being super kind and helpful. Lots of different things to do around, for example we went for a short hike in the morning. Also, there's very cheap gas station nearby.

Great spot just a short drive from the Phoenix Valley

Camped here with my kiddos. It was late fall, approaching winter. Beautiful during the day, and downright frosty at night, literally. During the day we wore shorts, and the kids walked in the creek. Over night, it dipped just below freezing, so everything was frosted over in the morning. If you are not a fan of the cold, I would suggest late spring, early fall. Other than that, we loved it. The kids and I hiked up a mountain trail to an overlook that let you see the entire campground. The creek was a close by hike, and a blast for the kids. This has been one of our favorite campgrounds. Still close to camp verde if you need any supplies. All around, a nice area with a running creek. It’s beautiful!

Great Fall Getaway

We wanted one last tent camping trip before it got to cold and chose a quick trip up to Camp Verde. (We’re from Phoenix) It was a short hour and a half drive up the 17. Clear Creek Campground is about a 10 min drive passed Camp Verde, so if you forget any supplies it’s a quick trip into town. The Campground itself is pretty wide open, which is not my cup of tea normally but we found a cute spot that is right next to the exit. It’s great! It’s totally hidden and separated from the rest of the camp. Bathrooms were clean, plenty of water pumps and the host is super on top of things. We had issues with some other rude campers ,so beware. I have a feeling it’s an amateur campground, so if it’s summer and you want peace and quiet, this is not the place. Our timing was great Tue-Thur, Oct 9th thru the 12th. The Creek is just across the dirt road. It’s so peaceful and beautiful! Has a nice little trail that runs next to the creek.
