Great spot just a short drive from the Phoenix Valley

Camped here with my kiddos. It was late fall, approaching winter. Beautiful during the day, and downright frosty at night, literally. During the day we wore shorts, and the kids walked in the creek. Over night, it dipped just below freezing, so everything was frosted over in the morning. If you are not a fan of the cold, I would suggest late spring, early fall. Other than that, we loved it. The kids and I hiked up a mountain trail to an overlook that let you see the entire campground. The creek was a close by hike, and a blast for the kids. This has been one of our favorite campgrounds. Still close to camp verde if you need any supplies. All around, a nice area with a running creek. It’s beautiful!

Great campground, close to the lake.

Have camped here several times and have loved it. About 1.3 mile hike to the lake. There is a marina to rent fishing boats with trolling motors. Normal camp “facilities”. A little further off of Rim road, so the motor vehicle noise is less, however, the campsite is very close to woods canyon road, and the traffic of people driving to the lake is a bit heavy at times. Overall, still a beautiful and awesome escape back to nature for the most part. My kids love it up there.

Close, but worlds away...

Camped here with my son for scouts. Nice campground. You can see so many stars at night, it’s wonderful. We took a 3.3 mile hike to woods canyon lake. There is a marina and boat rentals are available. Camped in a small tent, hung the hammock, and enjoyed nature. The only downside was the constant noise from people in their side by sides running up and down Rim road all day, and into the night. Other than that, the usual “outhouse” type facilities. Running water to fill up containers for camp.

Amazing beauty

Went up for Labor Day weekend with my kids. We had a blast. Campsites were nice, bathrooms were well maintained (actually had flushing toilets). The lake was beautiful. We rented a boat from the marina and spent about 3 hours fishing. Perfect weather. Wildlife: we saw blue jays, squirrels, chipmunks, as well as several elk who wandered through camp in the early evening. We will be going up to Big Lake again next year, if not sooner.
