At 9,049 acres, Georgia's largest state park is a hiker's and backpacker's haven. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. Above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook. Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool fed by cool springs. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides. In 1921, FDR came to this part of Georgia to swim in naturally warm springs that offered relief from polio. Today, nearby Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site invites visitors to see his modest home, a museum and the pools that first drew him here. 9,049 Acres 22 Cottages 109 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites 16 Backcountry Campsites 2 Picnic Shelters Group Shelter (seats 95) Group Camp (sleep 75) Pioneer Campground 2 Lakes (15-acre Lake Delanor and 25-acre Lake Franklin) Liberty Bell Swimming Pool Trading Post

    Large parks with endless options

Large corporate resort with options for everyone's needs. On the expensive side at $450 per week for an RV site. Cable only offered in certain areas of the park.

True resort includes pool, hot tub, fitness room, activity building, laundry, multiple dog runs and bathhouses. Baths could use an update.

There are yurts of all sizes and cabins too.

Was a great location for us to visit friends. Best RV sites are those in purple...Long concrete pull thrus. Those in pink are very wooded, not very level and close together.

    Nice campground

Campground is fairly large with lots of sites for RVs, a few Cabins, yurts, and even tent sites. There is a really nice and well maintained pool, hot tub, and splash area for small kids. The RV sites near the pool are concrete pads and well spaced out. The sites below the pool area are a little tighter and un-level and our lot was covered in ants. Since we arrived late at night we didn’t realize the amount of ants until we woke up to them crawling all over our camper. 30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances. Other than that we had a great time and really appreciated the trash pickup twice a day and the Dollar General that was only a 1/4 mile down the road.

    Amity Campground

    The Crown Jewel

The campground is developed and maintained by the Corp of Engineers, so everything is well designed and maintained. The lots are hugh. most are on the water. Some sites are so private you’d think you are alone. The park is spread out so that each loop is so far from the others you can’t hear or see them. The roads are in great shape. One could rollerblade on the asphalt. You can swim, fish or boat right from your site. lots of hiking trails. The forest is very diverse, with lots of large oaks, pines, cedars, and more. not a single dead tree anywhere. Even in the loops that are most popular, the lots are 120 feet apart at least. There are pavilions on two of the loops that campers use.

The attendants were helpful and polite. We will bring our bikes next time. We walked several miles each day exploring. We’ve camped at Wind Creek State Park before and in comparison we liked this one better because the lots are much larger and you get more beach area per lot. The showers are typical state park showers, no complaints. The place is very clean, no trash, limbs or clutter. the grass is kept trimmed. There were tennis courts and a basket ball court if one desires. The park is right on the Alabama/Georgia line, in Alabama but on Eastern time, a little weird. There are 30 and 50 amp lots with water but no sewer, but with a dumping station. we noticed most folks had the portable sewer tanks. we value privacy, but if you want to camp in groups there are loops that accomidate that well. We will go back for sure.

We use AT&T and got two bars at our site, which allowed us to stream Netflix with no buffering.

    Florence Marina State Park Campground

    Close to Providence canyon

Great small campground. Site #20 was a large pull through. Full hookups. Some sites tend to flood. Camp is on lake George. This is a busy lake for motorized boats and fishing. I went kayaking on the lake. If you kayak across lake you are in alabama. Bathhouses were well kept and nice laundry facilities. This park has a full service marina. This park is about 9 miles to Providence canyon. There is a brewery close by but was closed due to covid. Campground was very well kept. Marina area and lake had a lot of trash and debris. Some of the trash along shore could have been from recent floods but the amount of trash I saw kayaking was extreme. Park has several fish cleaning stations and a lighter pier. There was also a floating dock at campground for fishing, launching kayaks.

Wish it was open to the public

Only downside is that you have to be military, or be with someone who is military, to get in. There’s a range of cabin styles to choose from. My girlfriend loved the chateau. It’s not camping. It’s a vacation house in the woods. Absolutely beautiful. The grounds are nice, but there are alligators.

    Our first tent camping experience

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They have an amazing staff that made us feel welcomed and safe. Their pool and splash pad is nicer than most hotels. The site bathrooms/showers and laundry area are kept in very well condition. We saw all types of wild life, deer, boar, and a variety of birds. 10/10. Can’t wait to go back.

I stayed here in my NoBo 16.2 camper for almost 6 weeks waiting on a house. The site is clean. Cable, electric, water and sewer. The wifi has been out for a while. Tent sites and cabins also available. Lots of wildlife. If you're into C130s flying over due to being in close proximity to the US Army Airborne School, this is the place for you.

    Quiet little park

The park is relatively small but it’s very well kept. Small rigs can pretty much enjoy any spot but larger rigs need to be sure that the site is level for the length of the rig. Some spots have a driveway that goes downhill from the camper and others go uphill from the camper which might be an issue for 5th wheels. Overall, would stay here again!

    GA Power Campground ain't bad

Sites are on the smallish side but well shaded. Site 1 has another site 15 feet behind it. (RV butts back to back)

The lake is lovely, and there are docks that, if you put a boat in, you can dock right at your site on some select sites. (3 and 9)

36 is excellent if you want by the bathhouse. 25 is nice on the water. There is less than 15 feet between sites 1 and 32 or 48 and 39.

The bathhouse is heated and has five toilet stalls and four nicely tiled showers with benches.

Verizon LTE is one tiny bar, but webpages and videos load, albeit slow.

BE WARNED: If you drop a tent with an RV they charge you an extra $30. If you have two tents on one site they charge you $25 for EACH tent. You might as well reserve 2 sites. (See photo of fees)

Beautiful, Clean and very friendly staff

We stayed here so we could camp in close proximity (9 miles away) to Providence Canyon State Park. Florence Marina is geared mostly towards those who want to get out on the lake in boats, but we enjoyed walking the little nature trails and kayaking in our down time between hiking over at Providence. It was very clean and the staff were very accommodating to our needs.

    Nice campground

We stayed in site # 16 it has full hook up. The park was busy it was Halloween they have a haunted boat ride and a hayride.  Great place to spend Halloween. It was decorated well and there was a fest going on we won a basket of goodies. We walked to the lake there were so many dragonflies it was cool. The birds were swooping up the dragonflies it was interesting to watch. We would go watch sunset at the lake funny our phones read Al. time not GA time.

We had a good time in the park you can kayak or rent a little boat it was cheap.  We rented a boat my husband fished and we drove around the lake. You can have a AL. or GA fishing license here the lake runs through both states. Lots of blooming Lilly's, big oaks with moss, shorebirds and gators.

Close to this park is Providence canyon which looks like a small Bryce canyon except it was created by poor farming. It's a neat place to see about 6 miles from the park. There's an old church there and some real old graves. There's a nice hike along the rim you can hike down in the canyon too.

Went into Eufaula to Antique and check out the town. The drive there and back is pretty.

    Weekend Family Camping

We stayed here because of it’s close proximity to Providence Canyon State Park. The campsites are open with no buffer between campers. The restrooms were clean and signs up for Covid. There was ice and firewood available but bring cash. There is boating and canoeing in the marina. There is a putt putt course, but it is very dated. There are a few short trails available. We were the only pop-up. There were a few tents, but mostly RV campers. Watch out for those afternoon storms. They come in quick and the campsites flood easily. Would like to try the cabins next time.

    Nice park and campground

We camped here for 3 nights last month. It poured the whole time. The campground was pretty muddy. The staff was great. We saw a few small gators and enjoyed the downtime. Sometimes it is really nice to just sit and listen to the rain.
