Accessible by drive-in or boat, Rocking Chair Campground sits within Eleven Mile State Park at an elevation that creates notable wind conditions off the reservoir. The campground divides into two distinct sections: sites near the water and others positioned uphill several hundred yards away. Colorado Parks & Wildlife manages this $28-per-night facility with full hookups for RVs, including electric, water, and sewer connections.
The uphill sites provide some wind protection compared to waterside locations, which campers find particularly relevant during shoulder seasons when lake breezes intensify. Sites feature standard picnic tables and fire rings, though fire restrictions frequently apply. The exposed terrain offers no tree cover, making shade structures challenging to set up during windy conditions. Cell coverage reaches four bars on Verizon networks.
Access requires navigating a rough, bumpy road that forces most vehicles to travel well below the posted speed limit. One reviewer noted the vibration from road conditions as potentially damaging to equipment. The campground layout creates wide, open spacing between sites, though enforcement of quiet hours appears inconsistent. Anthony N. was "very surprised there was no enforcement of quiet hours" during his stay.
Reserve ahead through Colorado Parks & Wildlife, and consider the uphill sites for better wind protection during spring and fall visits.

In this arid environment with varying weather, fire danger may change quickly. Please call the park office at 719-748-3401 for current conditions, restrictions or more information. Conditions can change rapidly and often. Please check whether there is an active fire ban and what it means, by visiting https://www.hartselfire.org/.
