Echo Canyon State Park sits in the high desert of eastern Nevada, and North Campground occupies the northern end of the park's reservoir, giving campers direct proximity to the water. Sites are spaced out across open terrain, and nearly every one has its own water access point. The campground accommodates rigs up to 70 feet, though the open layout and covered picnic tables at each site make it equally functional for tent campers. Reservations are available, and at $10 a night it remains one of the more affordable places to camp around Pioche.
Fishing draws most visitors here. Reviewers have pulled in bass, crappie, and trout from the reservoir, though water levels can vary significantly by season. One visit in summer 2021 found the lake low and heavily vegetated along the shores, making fishing difficult. Campers staying toward the upper end of the campground get easier trail access. Bug spray is worth packing, particularly for visits in late spring and early summer when gnats can be a nuisance, and black widows have been spotted under picnic tables.
"Bathrooms were an easy walk, and clean," notes Alisa B., and that tracks with multiple reviews flagging the facilities positively. The campground also has a small lending library on-site. Night skies here are notably dark, which adds to the appeal for campers who don't need hookups or developed amenities. The RV Campground at Echo Canyon State Park and the Group Camping Area are both located nearby for larger parties or groups. North Campground is a good match for anglers and self-sufficient campers comfortable with a remote, open setting.
