Reaching Whipple Cave requires navigating roughly two miles of dirt road after passing through a wire-fenced gate, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle is necessary. Sedans won't make it. The campsite sits at the trailhead, with fire pits scattered throughout and no reservation system. Wind picks up noticeably at night. The cave itself is a short hike up the mountain and requires a 165-foot rope, headlamps, and technical rappelling skills to enter a 70-foot drop and explore roughly two miles of passages below. Dogs are welcome, and there is no fee to camp. Campers wanting established facilities nearby can consider Pioche City Park or browse places to camp near Pioche for additional options in the area.
