Bearly Bear

Open year round  Services discontinued the end of September through May

Fees:  $10.00

Stay limit 16 days

Pit toilet   trash   fire ring bear box picnic table   camp host

GRIZZLY bear area so be bear aware bear spray is a very good idea and be prepared

Sites are flat but they are very small.  Pets on a leash.  The backdrop is amazing.  Campground is on the road to Yellowstone and you really can't beat the price unless you find a boondocking spot somewhere else.  There are horse corrals and trailer parking near.

Super quiet primitive campground

Very quiet and secluded. Lovely primitive campground right off 14. They've got 12 or so sites for tent or small trailers. We have a pick up with a 22 foot trailer and fit perfect. Surprisingly level spots as well. No hookups, potable water or dump station available. Vault toilets available and bear resistant food boxes, fire rings and picnic tables available at each site. This was a spur of the moment we need to stop for the night kind of thing and we were very pleased. The host was very nice and made sure we were full aware we were in bear country. He informed us of the last bear sighting and exactly where it was seen which was right on top of the hill next to the campground. Not a lot of room to maneuver but there is a large lot in the back if you need to turn around. Space for horse trailers.

Nice Forest campground near Yellowstone

This was a nice national forest campground just east of Yellowstone and not far from Cody WY. We scored a site with the river right behind us and the camp host told us about the nearby trails for hiking/biking and horses! The amenities are pretty standard for tent friendly national forest camping… Vault toilet, bear boxes and fire pits along with a table. Nice spot for sure! I included a video of the stream behind the site and the trail for reference.

Great for people with horses

Elk Fork campground sits about halfway between Cody, Wy and the east entrance to Yellowstone Park. There's a corral and access to good hiking and riding from the campground. Elk Fork only has about 8 sites so it's extremely low key and often has sites available when campgrounds are full. Also, it allows tent camping, which isn't allowed closed to the Park. There's no potable water so bring your own!
