Reservable sites at Vedawoo Campground run $25 per night, and weekends fill quickly, especially heading into midsummer. Weekday arrivals in early June have had better luck securing a spot. The campground sits just off Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, and campers in sites on the higher loops, particularly those closest to the highway, report noticeable road noise overnight. Pets are allowed, cell service is available, and campfires are permitted at sites that each include a fire pit, grill, and picnic table.
The terrain here shapes the experience directly. Massive granite outcroppings define the landscape, and as Tom E. notes, "because of all of the rocks and views each of the sites is somewhat unique." Rock climbing draws a consistent crowd, and several trails leave from the area, including a two-plus-mile loop around Turtle Rock that multiple reviewers single out. A moose and calf were spotted near the water on the east end. Hand pumps provide water in each loop, so there is no need to haul large reserves, though no hookups are available.
Vault toilets are kept clean and sites are paved. Wind can be a factor, particularly on exposed upper sites. Big rigs may find the loops tight. Campers staging trips through this corridor can find campgrounds near Buford for additional options in the area. Those wanting a different setup nearby might consider the Vedauwoo Tent Campground in Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, roughly a third of a mile away.
