Night under the stars

We saw this spot on the dyrt and headed this way after Yellowstone. We were the only ones there when we arrived, it was beautiful landscape and silent. We could let our dogs explore and had lots of space. It was easy to level out the RV using the terrain. Later on, a car camper crew came next to us and were peaceful and respectful. The view made it so worth it plus the darkest nights to see the stars. Us 2, and our three wild dogs loved it.

Camp Close to Yellowstone and Cody

Awesome site 45 minutes from East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park and about 20 minutes to Cody. Where we camped you possibly could fit about 3 - 4 vehicles / tent sites. Below our site next to a gravel pile you could fit one possibly two bigger rigs and we saw people camped out at the trailhead to Sheep Mountain. I was able to fit my tundra double cab and 5x8 trailer at the spot we were in. Try to keep off of native vegetation and fires I personally wouldn’t recommend. These sites are located on a road with horses, please go slow and use 4x4 to avoid washboarding.

PLEASE pack in/pack out and keep the area clean as possible. I always pick up after other people so please try to keep the campsites clean.

Sleep Under The Stars

We have a truck camper and stayed one evening. There were two other people camping in this area as well. Perfect for rooftop tent/car/van camping. We arrived around 7 PM and had no trouble finding the location or setting up a spot. The views are incredible and very peaceful in the evening. There is a little noise from the roadway in the morning time. There’s a lot of horse poo in the area, be prepared for that. No issues with animals or people for that matter. It was a bit windy. Would definitely stay here again.

Siteno site numbers.

Great spot

Didn’t see marked sites so I just parked on a hill. Spectacular view of the Milky Way.

Awesome night

Parked the car in the cleared area between the gravel pit and the trailhead. We could see the whole valley and no one bothered us. Gorgeous views and for free!

Great location! Free boondocking!

We were able to haul our 45-ft fifth wheel and find level ground. There are some additional locations to park higher on the hill but the road to get there is a little more rough. I've seen smaller camper vans but we couldn't haul our big rig up there. We boondocked here all week. Not far from Yellowstone and the town of Cody with amenities. The sheep mountain hiking trailhead is right here and lots of off-roading trails for single and double track. Great views. It was rainy and windy half the time we were here (late May). The roads were dirt but still solid and well maintained. Some of the hiking and OHV trails got muddy up on the mountain.
