Four yurts sit within Guernsey State Park, each equipped with electricity, bunk beds with mattresses, and a fold-out futon couch. Wood-burning stoves provide heat when temperatures drop unexpectedly, as weather can shift from 80 degrees to 35 degrees within 24 hours. Each yurt includes a picnic table and fire ring, though campers must bring their own toilet paper for the shared pit toilets.
The location offers views of rock formations around Guernsey Reservoir and sits close to Oregon Trail Ruts. During mid-July's annual silt run, water levels drop 25 feet as releases from Glendo Reservoir flush sediment downstream, creating muddy conditions that challenge kayak transport but enable easy floating on the North Platte River. National Guard artillery practice from a nearby area produces audible noise during most summer months. The yurt area works well for tent-free camping with basic shelter needs.
