Oh-hum backcountry campsite

0D1 back country campsite is the first back country site I have visited that I did no care for.  While the site is about a 5 min hike off the main trail, the site had little to offer besides a spot to camp.  Their is no few at all and no water source near the camp.  It is about a 12 minute hike from camp to a creek crossing the Fairy Falls trail before the turn to this camp to obtain water.  The site does have plenty of flat ground to camp and a bear pole for hanging your food bag.  The biggest turn off for this site was all the toilet paper along the access trail.  Day hikers seem to use the access trail as their restroom on their hike to fairy fall and just leave their toilet paper on the ground just a few feet from the trail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Fairy Meadows located in Yellowstone National Park?

Fairy Meadows (0D1) backcountry campsite is located approximately a 5-minute hike off the main trail in Yellowstone National Park. The site is relatively remote, requiring about a 12-minute hike from the nearest water source. This backcountry campsite is situated in a wooded area that provides privacy but lacks scenic views. For exact coordinates and trail access points, check with Yellowstone National Park's backcountry office when obtaining your required backcountry permit.

What amenities are available at Fairy Meadows campsites?

Fairy Meadows (0D1) is a true wilderness campsite with minimal amenities. There are no facilities such as restrooms, tables, or fire rings at the site. Importantly, there's no water source directly at the campsite—the nearest water is about a 12-minute hike away, so you'll need to plan accordingly and bring sufficient water containers. As with all Yellowstone backcountry sites, you must be self-sufficient with proper food storage equipment and practice Leave No Trace principles. Remember that a backcountry permit is required for overnight stays.

What do the Fairy Meadows camping areas look like?

The Fairy Meadows (0D1) campsite is set in a wooded area that offers privacy but lacks scenic views. Despite its name suggesting an open meadow setting, the campsite is actually in a more enclosed forest environment. The area provides basic flat spots for pitching tents but doesn't offer the panoramic views some backcountry campers might expect. The site is functional but relatively unremarkable compared to other backcountry options in Yellowstone.
