Hikers can explore trails that wind through the Northern Highland State Forest, with West Star Lake Campground serving as a convenient base for woodland exploration. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet and provides vault toilets, drinking water, and a boat dock for lake access. One camper noted the welcoming nature of local trail users and appreciated the two-mile hike around the peninsula during a snowy October visit.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources manages this drive-in facility year-round, allowing campfires and pets. Campers can collect firewood from the surrounding forest and access Star Lake directly from the campground. For additional options in the region, consider East Star Lake Campground — Northern Highland - American Legion State Forest nearby.
