Off The Beaten Path!

Small city RV park adjacent to the Coal Mine museum. Nothing fancy, but quiet, full hookups, paved sites with trees & lots of shade, picnic table, fire pit & grill. Property was well maintained. You drive through an older neighborhood on a narrow road. Lots of bigger rigs there so not really an issue. Called & made reservations through the museum gift shop the day of on a Friday in August & they had plenty of spaces. The ladies in the gift shop were friendly & very helpful. The museum was very interesting & they have tours that go into the mine along with houses & buildings of the era. Definitely would stay again.

Nice layover

Just a one night layover on our way home. Had no problem leveling. Sites are awful hookup. Just need a little TLC.

City campground for self-contained units

This campground is just up the road from the Beckley Town Exhibition Coal Mine and attached to the town park. It offers 17 campsites and as of the COVID pandemic, is open only to self-contained RVs. Site are close to one another, back-in, able to accommodate large rigs, include water/electric/sewer. The bathrooms are closed and tent camping is not permitted. The campground is open April 1– December 1. Rates are daily, weekly, or monthly. Campground is not large and sites are sunny.

Check in at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine…and while you’re there, take a tour of the mine, museum, and associated villages(both a coal town and an earlier pioneer community). The guides are knowledgeable and friendly. The other attraction in the area is the New River Gorge National Park. Check out sunrise from Grandview Point, get a view of the bridge from Long Point, drive to the ghost town of Thurmond and to Sandstone falls. Ride a raft or a bike. Take a hike along the river, the rim, from rim to river, or under the bridge. Babcock& Hawks Nest State Parks are worth visits.
