Large open group campsite near Canyon Rim visitor center

This group campground offers 2 sites down a side road across from the Canyon Rim visitor’s center, just before the New River Bridge. It’s back behind the maintenance area. The sites are large and grassy with a covered shelter with numerous picnic tables, a grill and fire pit. The bathroom provides sinks and flush toilets.

There’s a short trail through an old farm/ home site. The campsite to the left as you approach is closest to the New River Bridge and you will hear traffic. There’s a short trail in that area, but I didn’t follow it far enough to see if it gives you a view of the bridge; you’re probably safer going across to the visitor center and using the overlook and viewing platform there.

2021 ratess are $75/night. You'll need to call to make reservations. (304) 465-6517

This is a good base if you want to explore the trails along the river, the Long Point or Kaymoor Miners Trail hikes, or go rafting.
