Easy find, lots of room

Lots of space for big groups, but it does get crowded on the weekend. Lots of little secluded spots which are more quite at night. Easy river access from all camp spots. Great trees for hammocks, ect. Would not recommend a low clearance vehicle; big rocks and roots on most roads.

Good spot, can be busy

Been here a few times and was able to get a spot right by the river each time. It gets pretty packed on the weekend but opens up during the week. Lots of people floating down the river. Beware of burn bans.

Somewhat primitive

We’ve been coming here for years now. Spots fill up fast! You can float the river down to Cle Elum lake. Once the weather warms up the river lowers and slows down. Lots of area for kids to create their little pools to swim in. Outhouses are sparse so bring tp. Very peaceful. Up at the end of salmon la sac road you will find trails and beautiful alpine lakes. There is a “last resort” store 20-30 mins from the camp sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find dispersed camping near Salmon La Sac?

Dispersed camping can be found along Salmon La Sac Road, with numerous spots available along the Cle Elum River. Many campsites are situated right by the river, offering easy water access. While spots are plentiful, they fill up quickly on weekends, especially during the summer months. The area offers more secluded spots for those seeking quieter experiences, though you'll need to explore the various pull-offs and side roads to find them. Weekdays typically offer better availability when the area is less crowded.

What's the difference between Salmon La Sac Campground and dispersed camping in the area?

Salmon La Sac Campground is a developed campground with designated sites and basic amenities, while the dispersed camping along Salmon La Sac Road offers a more primitive experience. The dispersed area has outhouses but they're sparsely located, so bringing toilet paper is recommended. Unlike the developed campground, dispersed sites don't have facilities like picnic tables, fire rings, or potable water. Dispersed camping offers more flexibility for larger groups and provides direct river access, but you'll need to be more self-sufficient with supplies and waste management.

How do I get to Salmon La Sac and what are the road conditions?

Salmon La Sac is accessed via Salmon La Sac Road near Cle Elum, Washington. The main road is generally passable, but once you turn off to dispersed camping areas, expect rougher conditions. High-clearance vehicles are recommended as many access roads have big rocks and exposed roots. Low-clearance vehicles may struggle to reach some of the more desirable camping spots, particularly those closer to the river. The area becomes increasingly popular in summer months, so arriving early is advisable to secure a good spot and avoid heavy traffic.

What is the weather like at Salmon La Sac throughout the camping season?

The camping season at Salmon La Sac typically runs from late spring through early fall. Early season brings higher, faster-flowing river water, which gradually lowers and slows as summer progresses. Summer temperatures are generally warm and pleasant, making it ideal for river activities and swimming. The area can experience burn bans during the hottest and driest parts of summer, so always check current fire restrictions before your trip. Evenings can cool down considerably even in summer, so pack layers. The best weather conditions typically occur from June through September.
