Red Mountain Campground

Red Mountain Campground, near Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, is a fantastic spot for those looking to escape into nature. With a beautiful river nearby, it’s perfect for cooling off on hot days and offers a serene backdrop for your camping experience.

The campground features spacious sites that can accommodate tents and RVs, making it a great choice for families or groups. Many visitors have enjoyed the privacy of their sites, with some even describing it as having a “private beach” feel thanks to the river access. As one camper noted, “Our site was large enough for two tents and two cars,” which is a plus for those traveling with friends or family.

While there are no electric hookups or drinking water available, the clean restrooms and trash disposal make it manageable for a weekend getaway. Campers have appreciated the peaceful atmosphere, with minimal vehicle traffic and plenty of trees providing shelter. Just keep in mind that it can get busy on weekends, so arriving mid-week might give you a better shot at snagging a prime spot.

For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, the area is great for exploring, with opportunities for swimming, fishing, and even spotting wildlife like deer. Just remember to keep an eye on your pets and kids, especially around dusk. Whether you’re here for a quick escape or a longer stay, Red Mountain Campground offers a lovely retreat into the great outdoors.

Pull in and out super easy

This location was an accident to find but great for larger vehicles that have a hard time back in to site. There are 3 spots for pull in and out. Of which all have 3 established fire rings that are actually metal rings with greats to put on top. We were the only ones and the cars coming by the road were very few. The trees added shelter and ample fire wood to make it last 5 hours at night and 5 hours in the morning. Even areas and one way to get in and another way to get out.

Private beach

We were right next the the river. Helped drown out any cars on the highway at night. Our site was large enough for two tents and two cars. It is also the last camping area with a little path to the river which made it almost like our own private beach. Our first night we had deer come through to see what we were cooking. Bathroom was clean.

Quaint little campground

Great little campground. Along a little river but not right at campsites. Crawdad along banks at night. Lots of bats at night. Right off of highway. Restroom with fresh water access. No electricity, no on site manager/ranger. No cell reception for t-mobile customers. Burn bans in effect typically in the late spring to early fall dependant of course on the amount of annual moisture in the region. Sold out prebooked for most major holidays. Good idea to book ahead of time by calling the local ranger station. High cougar population so keeping an eye on pet's and smaller children a must especially around dusk and after dark. Also bear area. But our family has never had any problems nor seen any large predators when we do our annual family camping trip there. Also be sure to do any last min. Shopping in cle elum because there is nothing as far as retail grocery stores past this point and it's about a 45 min drive each ways to cle elum. There is a final gas station about 10 mins drive from the campground that has basic camp supplies and ice. High prices for the convenience. And they close at 9pm if my memory serves me correctly. Beautiful area. Very peaceful.

Very Nice, but a coveted site

Very nice spot for a nice get away, but you probably want to get here mid-week. We had planned to just take our kids to play in the river on a Friday afternoon, and the camp grounds on both sides of the river were already full. A nice spot for wading and swimming for kids and adults. fishing, because of the amount of people swimming might not be ideal, unless you hike up or down the river a bit. River is beautiful, and scenery is great! Took my monocular to scan the mountain rocks for the big fella, no luck. Camp sites were very spacious, almost all had multiple cars parked and what looked like 3-5 day gear setup. We did talk to a camper who told us, ‘don’t tell anyone about this spot’. So it seems like it is coveted to some, which might make it tough to secure as a first come first serve. Also, not very far at all from Roselyn if you want to get a burger or ice cream. Good-luck!!

Beautiful and Close

Last minute we decided to take the camper van out of the smoke in Western Washington. We gave this campsite a shot after seeing it on The Dyrt and SUCCESS! Campsites available, beautiful river and quiet neighbors. Less than 2 hours from Seattle. We will be back.

Birthday Camping Trip

The Wenatchee National Forest sign for the campground Is hidden behind brush on the right side of the road! Thursday night we showed up at the camp ground & I think we got two of the best camp sites there! I think there are 10 sites total & they are first come first serve $14 a night for 1st vehicle, $6 a night for second vehicle. You are only aloud two vehicles per site, but there is extra “day parking” rIght infront of site 5 & down at the end of the camp ground. We camped at sites 5 & 6. There Is a picnic table & fire pit for each site, & plenty of flat space for 3-4 tents. The rocky river shore gave great places to swim and jump in the river when it got hot. The toilet stayed fairly clean and almost always had paper.

Great Place to relax

Our family of 6 all enjoyed our adventure to Red Mountain. We stayed in Site 3 which was a great place for our family however there is a lot of vehicle traffic coming through because at the end of site 5 is a great place to begin water activities. Our kids love exploring the rivers edge and watching the rapids.

We will be back!
