Closed For the Season

This campground is closed for the season from October 14, 2024 through April 17, 2025.

Rob's Land, near Massanutten Mountain, is a rustic camping spot that offers a laid-back experience right by the Cub Run creek. With just a couple of sites, it’s perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some peace and quiet.

The campsites come equipped with fire rings and picnic tables, making it easy to gather around the fire after a day of exploring. Visitors have noted the abundance of firewood nearby, so you won’t have to worry about running out. As one camper mentioned, “The sites are all right on the creek that had very clean water, which was fantastic for the dogs.”

This location is a great base for exploring the nearby Shenandoah Mountains, with easy access to hiking and scenic drives. If you’re up for a little adventure, you can wade in the stream or stroll through the surrounding farm fields. Plus, you’re not far from Harrisonburg if you need to stock up on supplies.

While the amenities are minimal, the charm of the area shines through. Campers have appreciated the tranquil atmosphere and the chance to connect with nature, with one reviewer even mentioning the lovely sounds of frogs at night. If you’re looking for a simple, serene getaway, Rob's Land is definitely worth considering.

Located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia 15 miles from the Swift Run entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive along a constantly moving creek with plenty of wildlife. There is a picnic table and a fire ring.

This is a PRIMITIVE CAMPING

There are:

  • NO TOILETS
  • NO SHOWERS
  • NO POTABLE WATER
  • NO TRASH

You must pack out what you bring. You are welcome to purify water from the creek. There is plenty of kindling wood to gather to help get your fire going. You may use any wood you find for firewood.

It is a good idea to:

  • bring some firewood
  • table cloth for picnic table
  • be informed campers…if you are new to camping please ask your veteran camping friends for tips. One great tip I received before my first trip was "plan and prep your meals for camping - prepping meals at a camp is challenging and time consuming." Of course that changes if you are in a deluxe RV with a nice galley!

Quiet time after 10 PM. This is near Massanutten Resort. There are many country roads traveling through Virginia farm country for great cycling. The Shenandoah River and the Rivanna are nearby for kayaking. Day trips are easy to the Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest and Seneca Rocks.

Rustic camping by the creek

Camp sites are along the Cub Run creek a short distance off the paved road. Camp sites are very rustic but include a fire rings and picnic tables. Camping area is among farm fields and very quit. Access to the sites is by way of a dirt road. When the adjacent field is planted there is limited room to turn around to exit. Cars and vans will do well but large motor homes and trailers will not. Very close to Massanutten Mountain.

Great Find!

We visited this campsite on Memorial Day weekend and there were only 2 other campers there. Rob was vey communicative and allowed us to choose another empty site if there was one we liked more. The sites also had new fire rings and plenty of dead wood around; we had no shortage of fire wood. The sites are all right on the creek that had very clean water, which was fantastic for the dogs. Overall, the area was very quiet and I would definitely stay here again rather than trying to camp inside the crowded Shenandoah Park sites.

5 campsites by a pretty stream

This campsite is in its early stages, so not many amenities but it is a lovely spot on a farm by a stream.  I got rained out but that was my leaky tent and not the campsite's fault.  If there's a chance of rain,  you'll probably want four wheel drive, but I think you'll like the spot.  You can have a fire, wade in the stream and walk the farm.  I think I heard frogs at night, lovely sound.  You won't be far from Harrisonburg if you need to get to a grocery store.  The owner of the campsite allows you to use wood from the surroundings.  The owner sent a thorough email detailing location and amenities.  The site is off of Montevideo Circle.  Enjoy.

Homebase for exploring the Shenandoah Mountains

Jake from the Dyrt here!  Camp Montevideo has an excellent location to spend some time exploring the nearby mountain ranges, and super close to the famous Skyline Drive that cuts through the Shenandoah mountains.  Check out this camp and make sure to leave a review on the Dyrt!
