Hawk Nest Mushroom Farm

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Cedar trees overhead and the faint smell of a working mushroom farm nearby set the tone at Hawk Nest Mushroom Farm, a small private campground in Singers Glen, Virginia. The site sits beneath a canopy of red cedar trees, giving tent campers and van campers solid shade and a forested atmosphere. Those arriving in large RVs should be aware: multiple reviewers note that the access road and camping area are better suited to smaller rigs, so plan accordingly.

Host Orv is a recurring presence in reviews, and his hands-on approach clearly shapes the experience here. Campers have received tours of the active mushroom growing operation, which adds an unusual dimension to an overnight stay. Two fire circles with tables and chairs are set up around the site, and firewood is provided at no extra charge. One practical note worth flagging: tall grass near one of the fire circles has drawn concern from visitors about both tick exposure and fire clearance, so checking that area on arrival makes sense.

Day-time road noise is audible from the site, though owls have been heard after dark. Ralph P. notes "the camp area is quiet and there is plenty of firewood for use," which reflects the evening experience more than the daytime one. Electric hookups, drinking water, showers, WiFi, and pet-friendly policies round out the amenities at $25 to $30 per night. Reservations are available. Campers planning a broader Shenandoah Valley itinerary can browse camping areas near Singers Glen or consider nearby Traveler's Meadow as an alternative base. If the combination of a working farm and a wooded overnight stop sounds like your kind of detour, Hawk Nest is worth a look.

Convenient location

It s nice to have a camp option near Harrisonburg. I agree with others that the tall grass seems like a tick risk. The tall grass is too close in the more private fire circle for fire safety. It was nice to hear several owls nearby. There is road noise during the day. Orv is welcoming and accommodating.

A unique campsite setting not to far of the beaten path

The camp host Orv has a very unique campsite setup not too far from the house/mushroom farm area. We got a nice tour of the mushrooms currently growing at the farm. The camp area sits under a canopy of cedar trees. If you are tent camping or have a camper van the area is fine. Large RV will have a difficult time setting up in the camp area.  The camp area is quiet and there is plenty of firewood for use.
