Mallard Bay Overflow Recreation Site

This free overflow area serves as backup camping when other sites fill up, accessible by standard vehicle along forest roads. The Forest Service manages this spot within an open terrain setting near the lake, though one camper notes the main area functions more like a day-use parking lot with overnight permissions rather than a dedicated campground.

The site provides basic amenities including drinking water, picnic tables, and trash service, with campfires and pets both allowed. Campers seeking more privacy can explore additional overflow sites to the south, which offer better seclusion according to visitor feedback. The nearby Doctor Creek provides a more developed alternative just half a mile west for those preferring established campsites.

Only if you must

Beautiful area, but this overflow is simply a day use lot that has overnights permitted if other sites are full. Free sites across the street - still within view of the water - are much nicer. If the Doctor Creek campground sites are available and you can spare the $15, it is much nicer. If you have an SUV or truck, check out the Mallard Bay overflow sites to the south. Much nicer and more secluded.
