Reservations are available at Sand Creek RV, Cabins, Tents, which makes it a practical anchor for visiting Capitol Reef National Park, where the campground inside the park fills quickly and operates first-come, first-served. Rates run $20 to $65 per night depending on site type, covering tent pads, RV hookups with full electric, water, and sewer connections up to 76 feet, and rental cabins. The campground sits on Highway 24 in Torrey, within a designated dark sky community, and the WiFi signal has consistently earned positive mentions across multiple reviews.
Sites vary noticeably by position. Spots along the outer edge face open fields toward the cliffs and red rock formations, giving campers clear sightlines toward the surrounding canyon country. Those sites are more exposed, though, and wind is a recurring theme in reviews. Several tent pads have wooden wind shelters built around them, and at least one reviewer noted the gusts were strong enough to discourage time outside entirely. Tent sites closer to the office are small and close together, with little separation between neighbors, and campers heading to the restrooms from the RV section may pass through.
Jimmy S. sums up the overall feel well: "Setting is simple, nice and clean." Cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers comes up in nearly half of all reviews, consistently on the positive side. The campground also has firewood, ice, and pay laundry on site, and Peggy M. notes a "Night Sky telescope available, bikes for kids" as additional touches. A restaurant sits across the street, and a Mexican restaurant is next door.
Highway 24 traffic is audible until around 11 p.m., which is worth factoring in for light sleepers. Cell service gets mixed marks. The campground sits roughly 1,500 feet higher in elevation than Capitol Reef itself, which translates to noticeably cooler temperatures, a useful consideration for summer visits. Campers who want more space nearby can also look at Thousand Lakes RV Park and Campground about half a mile to the west.
The season runs March 14 through October 31, with showers and restrooms closed outside those dates. Book a pull-through site if you have a large rig, and call ahead during peak summer weeks when Capitol Reef draws heavy traffic through the area.
