Remote with a fun adventure

I camped at the trailhead to moonshine wash. There are a few sites identified by a fire ring. It is very desolate and I was alone for miles. The UT desert is very beautiful and magical. The moonshine wash Canyon is not to be missed! It can be a short 2-3 mile hike or the full loop about 8 miles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access Moonshine Wash for camping?

Moonshine Wash Trailhead is accessed via remote desert roads in Utah. The trailhead has a few designated camping sites marked by fire rings. The area is extremely secluded, with miles of solitude in all directions. Due to its remote location, come prepared with adequate water, supplies, and a vehicle suitable for desert terrain. Navigation tools are recommended as the area is isolated with limited signage.

What is Moonshine Slot Canyon and is camping allowed nearby?

Moonshine Slot Canyon is a beautiful natural formation in the Utah desert that can be explored via a hiking trail from the Moonshine Wash Trailhead. The canyon offers hiking options ranging from a short 2-3 mile trek to a full 8-mile loop. Camping is allowed at the trailhead area, where you'll find primitive sites identified by fire rings. This makes it convenient to explore the canyon and then camp nearby in the same area.

What is the best time of year to camp at Moonshine Wash?

Spring and fall are generally the best times to camp at Moonshine Wash due to the moderate temperatures in the Utah desert during these seasons. Summer can bring extreme heat, making camping uncomfortable and potentially dangerous without adequate preparation for high temperatures. Winter brings cold nights but can offer solitude. The area is described as "very desolate," so regardless of season, come prepared with appropriate gear for temperature fluctuations common in desert environments.

What permits or regulations apply to camping in Moonshine Wash?

Camping at Moonshine Wash Trailhead is primitive and appears to follow standard Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regulations for dispersed camping on public lands. No specific permits are mentioned as being required for camping. The established fire rings indicate designated camping spots. As with most BLM lands, practice Leave No Trace principles, properly manage campfires, pack out all waste, and respect any posted regulations. Contact the local BLM office for the most current regulations and potential seasonal fire restrictions.
