Campers frequently mentioned the large, well-separated sites and quiet atmosphere near the creek and Dragon Cave trail. Common feedback included concerns about sandy conditions that could trap vehicles. Most found it accessible with good amenities like fire pits and dumpsters.

Great spot and location!

“Horse camp near belly of the dragon” connects with “Twin hollows canyon” which is also on BLM (it doesn’t show as “free camping” on this site for some reason).

Plenty of sites ranging from some closer to the road for big rigs, and smaller vans/trucks can get in closer to the river. Definitely check out the belly of the dragon while there, as well as a visit to Best Friend’s Sanctuary (only 16 mins away) for a free tour and $5 all you can eat delicious plant based buffet! Another highlight nearby was Coral Pink Sand Dunes state park!

horse camp by the Belly of the Dragon

We arrived just before sunset and hiked through the belly of the dragon and came through east to west at Sunset and it was super cool the way the sunset panted fire on the sandstone walls

Cool spot

We camped right next to the creek which is beautiful. Dead bird in the creek though and a spine of another animal. Lots of areas to camp for tents, car camping and rv/travel trailers. Just don’t get stuck in the sand!! Overall a really cool spot.

Great!

Verizon cell service almost full bars. Plenty of space where even if you can see your neighbors they're far enough away. It was nice and quiet. Someone left dog poop but whatever. There are quite a few spots with fire pits made with big rocks. Perfect for my and my doggo! We camp in my 4runner. There is a mix of soft sand and rocks as far as the ting would go, but wouldn't take too much effort to clear a soft area of sleeping on the ground. Basically no wind 🥳

Nice dispersed sites on stream

Nice level large sites with great separation but too hot in July (97F). Watch weather the road seem like it could become sticky mud in rain. 5 stars for this free blm area expect for our July weather heat. Near belly of the dragon cave hike.
