Great spot

This is a great spot. Very sandy but up the road we saw a class A parked in one of the spots. We drove to these coordinates but they are to the left which lead to a locked gate. To the right someone was already camped. We back tracked to 64L camp spot. We put it in 4wd but likely not necessary. We drove down the road to the Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park (about 7 miles) and we noted the sand was the same color as where we were camped. A bit of trash around from folks not following leave no trace. A lot of TP mostly. People don't understand to use dog poop bags for their TP. We cleaned up everything we could find.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access Hancock Road Campground?

Hancock Road Dispersed Camping is accessible by vehicle, though navigation requires some attention to detail. The coordinates may lead to a spot with a locked gate on the left side, so be sure to look for alternative camping spots to the right. If those are occupied, backtracking to camp spot 64L is an option. While 4-wheel drive can be helpful due to sandy terrain, it may not always be necessary. It's advisable to have a detailed map or GPS to locate the specific dispersed camping areas along Hancock Road.

What amenities are available at Hancock Road Campground?

Hancock Road Dispersed Camping offers minimal amenities consistent with dispersed camping areas. This is a primitive camping experience with no developed facilities such as toilets, running water, or established picnic areas. Campers should plan to be entirely self-sufficient by bringing their own water, toilet supplies, and trash bags to pack out all waste. The area provides natural camping spots without designated sites or fire rings, making it ideal for those seeking a more rustic outdoor experience.

Is camping at Hancock Road seasonal or year-round?

Hancock Road Dispersed Camping appears to be available year-round, though accessibility and conditions vary by season. The sandy terrain may present challenges during wet weather periods. Spring and fall likely offer the most comfortable camping conditions. Summer can be quite hot in this area, while winter might bring colder temperatures and potentially challenging road conditions. Before heading out, check with the managing agency (likely Forest Service or BLM) for any seasonal closures or fire restrictions that might be in effect.
