About
National Forest
Like a little taste of Yosemite tucked away in the Umpqua Valley, South Umpqua Falls Campground is an open meadow campground surrounded by timber. With 20 campsites, 3 vault toilets, and grey water waste sumps so you can easily dispose of dirty water, this campground has the space and amenities needed for family and group camping. Across the road is the picturesque South Umpqua Falls Picnic Area, where you can see the South Umpqua River cascade fifteen feet over a wide slab of bedrock, learn about Chinook salmon, and occasionally spot a bald eagle flying overhead. Beautiful falls, campground not so much
South Umpqua is quiet the party place. There’s no service, no police of any kind, and lots of drinking. I wouldn’t suggest this campground for families. There’s a lot of parties being thrown but if that’s what you like, you’d fit in. The waterfalls I would suggest for children but also can be very dangerous. There’s a shelf under water that people can get stuck underneath when jumping off the falls, this happened to a cousin of mine and he nearly died. Watch your little ones! Also the water is freezing, come on a day where it’s above 100 degrees!
Spring and fall
Multiple campgrounds on the roughly paved road to the falls CG. Recommend parking outside and scouting. Not all are RV friendly. S. Umpqua Falls CG is on opposite side of road from falls, but you can hear them. Great large sites, easy in/out although scout first. No water, but clean vault toilets and trash cans everywhere. No cell service which benefits the campers whom do not play by the rules. M-F are very quiet. Great wilderness hiking nearby.
Big and open
Very open, big fields but the sites are in the trees.
