Beautiful falls, campground not so much

South Umpqua is quiet the party place. There’s no service, no police of any kind, and lots of drinking. I wouldn’t suggest this campground for families. There’s a lot of parties being thrown but if that’s what you like, you’d fit in. The waterfalls I would suggest for children but also can be very dangerous. There’s a shelf under water that people can get stuck underneath when jumping off the falls, this happened to a cousin of mine and he nearly died. Watch your little ones! Also the water is freezing, come on a day where it’s above 100 degrees!

Spring and fall

Multiple campgrounds on the roughly paved road to the falls CG. Recommend parking outside and scouting. Not all are RV friendly. S. Umpqua Falls CG is on opposite side of road from falls, but you can hear them. Great large sites, easy in/out although scout first. No water, but clean vault toilets and trash cans everywhere. No cell service which benefits the campers whom do not play by the rules. M-F are very quiet. Great wilderness hiking nearby.

South Umpqua Falls Campground offers spacious sites nestled among pine trees, providing good shade while being adjacent to open meadow areas. The best spots are typically those located near the treeline, offering a balance of privacy and openness. For RV campers, not all sites are suitable, so it's recommended to park outside and scout the area first to find an appropriate spot with easy access. The sites across the road from the falls are particularly desirable as you can hear the soothing sound of rushing water while camping.

What activities can I enjoy at South Umpqua Falls?

The main attraction at South Umpqua Falls is the waterfall itself, which creates natural swimming holes perfect for cooling off during hot summer days. Swimming, wading, and exploring the rock formations are popular activities. The surrounding forest offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and photography. The open meadow areas are ideal for stargazing at night or picnicking during the day. Note that the atmosphere can become lively in the evenings, particularly on weekends, as the campground sometimes attracts groups looking to socialize.

How do I get to South Umpqua Falls Campground in Oregon?

South Umpqua Falls Campground is accessed via a roughly paved road that winds through the forest. The road can be somewhat challenging, so vehicles with higher clearance are recommended. There are multiple smaller campgrounds along this access road before reaching the main South Umpqua Falls campground. The campground itself is located on the opposite side of the road from the falls. For navigation purposes, it's located within the Umpqua National Forest. Due to the remote location, it's advisable to download offline maps before your journey as cell service is limited in the area.

How do I make reservations at South Umpqua Falls Campground?

South Umpqua Falls Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservation system. To secure a spot, especially during peak summer months, it's advisable to arrive early in the day, particularly on weekends.
