SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Castle Rock Fishing Access Site, managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 5, puts campers directly on the Stillwater River in Nye, Montana. Sites are large and spread out enough that even a full Labor Day weekend crowd doesn't feel compressed. No hookups are available, and cell service is absent for miles in any direction, so plan accordingly.

Fishing is the primary draw here. An elevated cement platform beside the river gives anglers a raised vantage point, and a deep pool across the water draws swimmers who use the rock ledge as a diving spot. The rocky riverbank also makes this a reasonable stop for rock hounding. Snakes are present among the river rocks, worth keeping in mind for anyone with dogs or small children, though pets are permitted on-site.

Amenities are straightforward: a vault toilet, picnic tables, fire rings, and firewood available on-site. Bring a flashlight since there's no lighting at the facilities after dark. Pay at the entrance so the site host knows you've checked in. Kathi F. notes "a really cool, elevated cement lookout area next to the river." The campground is consistently described as clean and well maintained. Buffalo Jump Camp sits a few miles to the southwest for those wanting a nearby alternative, and there are additional campgrounds near Castle Rock Fishing Access Site worth considering for longer stays in the region. This site works best for anglers and river-focused campers who don't need electrical hookups or reliable connectivity.

Quaint spot by the Stillwater River

Stayed here over Labor Day weekend so it was FULL. But (most) of the spots are large and spacious so it doesn’t feel crowded. There are snakes by the river (lots of rocks) and no cell service for MILES in any direction. Quiet, nice fishing access, nice spot for rock hounding too. “Boat ramp” is unusable IMO tho.

Easy access

This quaint little campground is easy to get to right off the gravel road. It sits right next to the stillwater river. There's a really cool, elevated cement lookout area next to the river to set up your chairs and fish. Theres also a vault toilet and picnic spot. Across the river is a rock ledge swimmers use to dive off of into a deep pool.

Great Riverside camping

No hookups of course. There is a toilet available. No light so make sure you take a flashlight at night. Great campsites. Privacy. Larger areas for groups. Fire rings. There are even some geocaches around the area. Great views. Good fishing. Clean and well kept. Make sure you pay and get your ticket at the front when you come in so the “ranger” knows you paid. Pack out what you pack in. Watch for open fire regs.

Great campground in Yellowstone National Park

Great campground in Yellowstone National Park close to castle rock falls, good tree coverage, has bathrooms and secured food storage, it also has a creek - great for fly-fishing- that leads to the falls. Enjoy the beautiful scenery while hiking down to Yellowstone river.
