Pa's Hammock (yurt) in Pennington Grove

The space

The style of our yurt is best described as bohemian. The pastoral scene wallpaper in the bathroom gives the feel of doin your business in the woods. On a moonless night it is quite dark out here as there are few lights. However, we have outdoor lighting when required. Stars are quite visible through the clear dome at night once you turn off the lights. We also turn the AC unit temperature display off which gets you pretty close to perfectly dark. While on the back deck there is a sense of being in a treehouse as the deck is integrated with a couple of live oak trees. The surrounding land has rocks with fossilized seashells from when this part of Texas was covered by ocean. You will also find numerous varieties of wildflowers rotating their colors in season as well as cactus, yucca and ashe juniper. We encourage you to walk about and explore the earth here as it can be quite relaxing and even hypnotic. You may discover arrowheads on the property as well as geodes. If you find either, they are yours to keep! It is common to hear bombs from the nearby army base as well as rocket testing at the Spacex rocket engine test facility 20 miles away in Mcgregor. These sights and sounds are all part of the charm of being in the northern hill country of Texas and we hope that you love it as much as we do!
