    Lake Houston Wilderness Park

    Really Nice Cabins

I have stayed in the cabins here four or five times. The first two years we had smaller groups so we stayed in the A Frame cabins. The last three years we've had their biggest one. There is a creek that runs through it and it is never over populated while I've been here. The cabin we've used was flooded and has not been rebuilt so we are looking for other places to hold our Spring Camp out. I hope they rebuild.

    Rayford Crossing RV Resort

    Well Managed and Manicured

We had to return our travel trailer to the dealership for some warranty work and wanted to have one last little getaway before handing it over. We opted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the dealership, and this campground had an opening. So, we booked one of the last remaining sites and hit the road!

Located in a suburban area north of Houston, the campground was very easy to find. It was nestled among nice suburban homes but still close to the amenities of a suburban city. We arrived after the employees left the front desk, so they instructed us to pick up our materials at the front office. We immediately noticed how well maintained this campground was. We easily found Site 21, a standard back in site. The sites are all concrete and level with a yard of grass and full hookups, which we really appreciate. We were surprised that our site didn’t have a picnic table like we thought, but we probably could have called to request one (wasn’t a huge issue in this July Texas heat).

This campground is more like a residential area. We noticed that many vehicles were gone early on a weekday morning. Many of the “campers” had potted plants and other items that indicated they were long-term occupants. There were many rules for the campground such as no items allowed on the grass or under RVs and no trash cans at sites, but none of these were unreasonable. Staff was visible throughout the day, often maintaining the grounds and collecting trash at each site (trash collection is each morning). It was extremely quiet, clean, and manicured.

Would we visit this campground again? Yes, if we plan to visit the Houston area for business in the future. We prefer the forest and the solitude that it affords, but this is a nice place to stay if you have business in the area. Rayford Crossing has amenities that may appeal to families with children such as a playground, beautiful pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, and fishing. The nice paved roads and sites and the dog park were nice as well. Our only complaints would be the price and lack of privacy, but I guess that’s to be expected in an RV resort near a major US city like Houston. Basically, it served our purpose.

    Double Lake NF Campground

    Personal opinion for my interests

Campground not full. Very quiet, sites not on top of each other (some more private than others), gravel pads for rv, tent, table, lantern post and campfire ring. Water & electric or primitive sites both available. My personal agenda is all things nature related. The land, peace, plants, birds, land animals and TREES, water sources and types. To enjoy all the beauty (in all forms) which our earth provides.

    Park On The Lake

    VERY close together/owner is awesome

We stayed here on Labor Day weekend. It was very packed. However at this location everyone sits right on top of one another. There wasn’t even enough room to sit outside and enjoy it. I will have to say the owner is VERY helpful and nice. We pull a 35 foot 5th wheel and he originally had us in a spot where our rig would not fit. He was so kind enough on a busy weekend to swap us to a different spot at the very last minute. We were right on the water and we got to fish. If I had to rate this spot I would give it a solid 7 out of 10 just based on the fact that we were so close to one another. No fire ring or picnic table. Bathrooms were clean and facility in general there was pleasant.

    Thousand Trails Lake Conroe

    Very well kept TT campground

The campground is well laid out. Easy access to sites, amenities and the Lake. Although its a small portion of the lake on the campgrounds side, you do have access to boat rentals,  a boat launch and plenty of parking. So if you have a boat, it will be a wonderful experience. Plus there is a beach area for families to enjoy.

The cottages look almost brand new. The campground even has a location to wash your RV or vehicle.

    Eagles Point RV and Camping

    Hidden Gem!

Even though our reservation was last minute, the owners were super quick in getting back to us. The guy who met us at the camp was also very friendly and showed us to our spot. $35 for dry camping, but there’s was also a cool pavilion that we were allowed to use that has a power outlet where you can charge your phone. There’s also a barbecue pit and a fridge too.

There’s plenty of space for dispersed camping and the lake is magnificent.

There seemed to be some long term residents but they won’t bother you at all. Restroom and shower super clean.

T-mobile signal was also strong. Would stay here again!

    Emerald Lake Resort

    Freedom

Great nudist park with nice amenities. I've been there a few times during the day just to swim and I've camped once so far. There are electrical hookups available at the tent sites, which is what I had. The only downside I would say is there are no fire rings at the tent sites.

Guide to Willis

Cabin rentals near Willis, Texas offer direct access to Lake Conroe and Sam Houston National Forest. Most properties stand within 10 miles of the Willis town center, with cabins typically situated between 95-200 feet elevation. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making water-based activities particularly popular during peak season when cabin occupancy rates can reach 85-90%.

What to do

Fishing access: At Double Lake NF Campground, visitors can fish in a shallow lake stocked with catfish and perch. "Deep in the woods and on a nice shallow lake. Fantastic for walks around the lake, playing in the park, and fun trails," notes one camper who visited from Houston.

Swimming options: Several cabin locations feature pools with lake views. At 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort, which offers cabin accommodations, guests mention spending "time at the pool that overlooks the lake and grounds." The adult-only policy creates a more peaceful atmosphere for couples or solo travelers.

Trail exploration: Cabin guests staying at Lake Houston Wilderness Park can access numerous hiking trails through varied terrain. A camper recommends "the trail that leads you to Lake Isabella. It can only be reached by hiking to it. Very peaceful." The park features multiple bridges over waterways and offers both cabin rentals and guided ranger programs.

What campers like

Privacy levels: Cabins at different properties offer varying degrees of seclusion. At Venice On The Lake, waterfront cabin sites provide lake views with "very nice sunset views" according to visitors. The property includes both waterfront and water-view cabin sites among its accommodations.

Cleanliness standards: Cabin renters frequently mention bathroom and shower facilities in their reviews. Some properties maintain higher standards than others, with one visitor to Majestic Pines RV Resort noting cabins are "clean and well maintained" with amenities including "a pool and a hot tub."

Peaceful settings: Several cabin properties prioritize quiet environments. One resort describes itself as a "very peaceful and relaxing" setting. Adult-only policies at select properties create environments where, according to one visitor, "friendly neighbors" contribute to the relaxed atmosphere.

What you should know

Booking requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance payment, with some charging additional fees. One visitor to Lake Conroe-Houston North KOA arrived after hours and noted: "We arrived after hours and were not given a bathroom code so that was an issue." Always confirm check-in procedures before arrival.

Cabin amenities vary: Kitchen facilities differ significantly between properties. Some provide only basic refrigeration while others include full cooking equipment. Bathroom access also varies, with some cabins featuring private facilities while others require using centralized bathhouses.

Occupancy restrictions: Several properties have specific rules regarding guests. Some cabin rentals near Willis enforce adults-only policies, creating quieter environments. Others have strict pet policies, with only certain cabins designated as pet-friendly.

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Family-friendly cabin locations provide structured recreation. "Gorgeous campground with a large lake and two ponds, a pool, putt putt, & tons of activities for kids!" reports a family who stayed at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.

Noise considerations: Family cabins may be noisier than adult-only properties. One reviewer noted their campground was "just too busy for our taste. There were vehicles constantly driving up and down the road in front of our site, and lots of children running around."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Children often enjoy observing local wildlife. The Lake Houston area cabins offer opportunities to see various animals. "Lots of wildlife in this park, saw many snakes in camp and on the trails," warns one visitor, suggesting parents should supervise children closely.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabins as an RV alternative, location matters. One visitor notes that "site 55 is NOT for RVs over 36 feet" at one resort, highlighting the importance of confirming site specifications before booking.

Utility reliability: Electricity and water service quality varies between properties. Some report inconsistent utilities with one noting "tv cut out every two minutes" and "internet is not good at all" at a property advertised as "luxury."

Spacing concerns: Cabin proximity varies significantly between properties. One camper at Park On The Lake observed that "everyone sits right on top of one another. There wasn't even enough room to sit outside and enjoy it," suggesting those seeking privacy should research site layouts carefully.
