Rolling hills surround Pin Oak Lake, where 77 full-hookup sites spread across open terrain about 15 minutes from I-40. The campground sits within Natchez Trace State Park, offering direct lake access and motor boating opportunities that distinguish it from other areas in the park.
Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit, grill, and lantern hook, with generous spacing between neighbors. The terrain's gentle slopes mean most campers enjoy some lake view, though sites vary in their proximity to the water. Beth LeVar L. notes "Pin Oak is the only motor lake" in the park system. Pull-through sites accommodate larger RVs easily, with level pads that work well for 38-foot rigs.
Bathhouses receive daily cleaning on weekends and every other day during weekdays, consistently earning praise from campers. The small swimming beach provides lake access, though water conditions can be muddy and warm during summer months. Fishing draws many visitors to the clear water, with no additional lake permit required for campground guests. A camp host sells firewood and assists with questions throughout the day.
The campground's location deep within the park means cell service becomes spotty or nonexistent. Staff patrol regularly into evening hours, maintaining order while families bike the roads and children use the playground. Carlos R. found "lots of great fishing and boating spots" throughout the area. Reservations help secure preferred sites, especially those closest to the water.
For a different experience, Cub Lake Campground #1 offers a larger swimming area with weekend boat rentals in a no-motor environment.
