Cute little weekend getaway

We stayed at cub lake site 19 & 20. Cute campsites that were right by the bath house and walking distance to the lake. Lots of activities going on all weekend. We have a 24fter and had a teeny bit of issues getting her out of there, but not by much. Full hookups at other sites we drove through but just water and electric at ours. Would come back again!

Great place 12 mins off the highway!

Stayed here on a trip from NC to Oklahoma and it was perfect. We stayed at site 22 in our roof top tent. The site is right off the water and close to the bathrooms/ showers. Didn’t get to explore a lot but we will be staying again!

Pleasantly surprised !

Found mixed reviews for this park but we loved it! Our site was wooded with power and water. Short walk to water access and many tents and small campers. There was another campground with mostly big rigs and more open fields- some with amazing water access. A third campground had no water access and was in really poor shape. Would definitely go back!

Great lakeside camping

Huge state park with lots of things to do. Archery, shooting, atv trails, and water sports.

We had site #8 which was near the public beach. There was a large pavilion and playground.

We will definitely be back.

Cub Lake

Has the potential to be a great place to camp but could use some TLC. Trails aren’t kept clean. Bathhouse isn’t kept up and the recreational area is lacking good help.

Repeat Camper!

Cub Lake Campground #1

I love this campground so much! It is very small and private. Only small campers and tent campers are allowed in this campground. I like the sites at the end of the loop because they are closer to the water, however, they are not as private. The sites offer 30amp elec and water hookup. The campground host is really nice and has wood on site for sale. The park store is close by for souvenirs and any other items you might need to purchase. The bathhouse is old, but super clean! We love the bridges that you can walk across to get to the cabins or to the swim beach area and kayak/paddle boat rentals.

Cub Creek Lake Campground #1

We stayed in Cub Creek Lake Campground #1, spot 12, on June 19, 2019. We sleep in two big tents and had originally reserved a spot in campground #2 which from descriptions was more aimed at tent campers. But after pulling into loop #2, we were able to switch our reservations to Loop #1 since #2 looked nearly abandoned with sloped sites and poor pad space. Our new campsite was great and had lots of room for our two big tents and and plenty of parking for our van. Nearby campers (mostly RVs) were spaced far enough away and the camp host was friendly and helpful.

Because of the season, it was hot and humid at night and we had a huge series of thunderstorms come through. The site drained well as well as the entire campground and next morning walking around the well-maintained trails and foot bridges over the lake was pleasant and dry. It looks like a big facility with a lodge and some cabins available on the other side of the lake. Would definitely recommend this site and this loop. Only reason I take a star off is because of the poor state of loop 2 and the lack of a dish washing station, but overall this is a great camp area!

Camping Area 1 - Cub Lake Campground

I wasn’t sure if we were even in the right place at first because this campground is down a narrow gravel road! However, we arrived at the correct place. The campground is for small campers, pop ups or tent campers. I really liked that because everyone was outside instead of hiding inside their giant RV’s! The spots at the end of the cove around the lake were awesome! The camp host was great (they sell bundles of wood!) and the bathrooms/showers were nice and clean. The bridges over the lake make for great access to other areas to explore without having to leave the campground. Several different hiking trails are available as well. We drove over to the Pin Oak Lodge for Breakfast one morning and it was fantastic! My site recommendations: 19, 20, 21, 22 or 23 (23 is connected to the playground)

Kudzu land!

This park offers everything you might think you need to do while on vacation at a State park. There are three camping areas, wrangler,RV and primitive. All have water spigots. Full hook ups for the RV crowd. Bathroom facilities are old, but they are okay. Now, what to bring. You can rent a horse, boat, kayak and paddle boat on site. There are also gravel trails for 4 wheelers. And don't forget your bike, water wings and fishing rod.

Lots of kudzu and fun

We were unable to rent a kayak as the only facility with them only rented to people staying at the cabins. We ended up hiking the many trails that begin near the campground. Cub Lake was my favorite trail, and if I ever make it back down I might try Red Leaves, as other campers recommended it.

Plenty of potable water, bathroom facilities were clean but crowded. Sites were roomy and had plenty of shade. Lots of vacationing families at the cabins/inn so not very quiet, but still beautiful.
