Worst camping experience ever

The natural beauty in that area is amazing however the camp ground in firefly loop leaves little to be desired and the camp host/hostess are extremely rude. Electric sites are advertised that they accommodate 2 tents however they do not. There is very little area to set up and the gravel is like concrete. There is grass and they don’t tell you a head of time but you can’t set up on the grass unless you are in the tent camping area. It’s is overpriced and poorly staffed.

Hike in

I’m not much for hike in to camp but I did really enjoy savage falls trail and the falls. There is a big parking area but it can fill up fast with those that are day hiking to see the falls. It’s not a tough hike to the campsite or to the falls themselves. Definitely one trip I will always remember

Great for fishing access

We love Bruton Branch. Specifically sites 28&29 they are the last of the site but it allows you to have your own little slice of fishing heaven as you are separated from the majority of other people. Right on the water and a breathtaking view to wake up to.

Best place I’ve been on the water

Great place for backcountry though you can drive right to the spot. The gravel road back can be rough especially right after a big rain but you can avoid most of the holes. The site is right on the water with a gravel opening beside it. We were able to setup 4 tents with lots of room to spare. We fished, we hiked, we kayaked!! We all enjoyed the peaceful exclusivity this site offers and we plan to return soon!!

Can’t beat LBL

We love all the bays and coves at LBL. We prefer less crowed camp areas and that is what sugar bay offers. Right on the water with access to several other things close by. Spots are in the grass and nothing fancy but perfect for us that love to Tent camp and enjoy natural comforts over amenities.

Great from a night stop over

If you are traveling far with your camper or RV this is a great stop over place. It’s not far off the interstate but far enough to feel like you are way off.

Well laid out

We stayed at site #1 at foster falls campground. It is on of the biggest spots with ample room for tents and parking. The sites are gravel but easy to stake down in. Sites aren’t very private but also not right on top of each other. Bathhouse is a short walk from all the sites. Rangers there were helpful. Leaves are everywhere and we did see a few snakes but nothing we don’t expect from the great outdoors. Foster falls was absolutely breathtaking. We will definitely go back to this campground in the future. I do wish the site Markers were bigger and easier to read as it was hard to navigate in the dark when we got there. There is a rooster somewhere close by that will wake you up at 5am.

Best group camp

We stayed in the group site that will hold up to 200 people for Halloween and it was perfect. The group site is away from all the other sites so you have plenty of room for children of all ages to run around and play without disturbing other campers. It’s very roomy and beautiful. You do have to watch for the falling acorns in the fall as they drop like bombs and don’t feel so nice. Ranger Tyson was awesome and came to check on us and fix any issue we had. I would recommend them putting in some electrical outlets under the pavilion but other than that I have no complaints. One of the hiking trails passes through the camp but we went on a slow weekend and saw nobody walk through. The lady that was in the museum when we went through was super awesome with a great personality and was very helpful! We will definitely be back to the site!

Wow

If you want a campground that has it all, Pennyrile State Park is where you want to be!

It has a GORGEOUS white sand beach with breathtaking blue water. Crazy to see that in KY!

Explore their caves, kayaking, canoeing, basketball and so much more! They even offer a wrangler campground if you want to bring the horses.

A little pricier than others, but worth it.

Great if you like golf

There is a huge golf course that sits within the entire area. Three separate entrances. One for the amphitheater, one for the welcome center and one for camping. Would be better if the golf course wasn’t there but that’s my opinion.

Backcountry camping

The Daniel Boone National Forest is an amazing and beautiful place to visit or a day or camp over night with some back country camping. A permit is required. They have an app you can download which makes navigating easier because service is not great.

Breath taking

Backcountry camping at its finest. Beautiful trails. Literally a new site around every corner. The gorge underground is a great adventure. Trails are marked and clear the best they can be for being a natural area. Will be back many more times

Great sites

Sites are decently leveled. Some are lower and can flood easy with decent rain. They are only doing 50% capacity right now but even with full capacity it would be comfortable camping as the sites are spaced well. We didn’t get to do the cave tour as they were booked and we didn’t think to book in advance. We will be back

Awesome place

South Cumberland state park is actually spread out over several counties. We went to a smaller section with walk in only camping. Sites are great and easy walk in to and the hiking trails and falls are so worth it. We had a great time there and will definitely be back. The ranger we talked to was super helpful. This is at savage falls not foster falls… savage falls I couldn’t find

Beautiful park. Tent sights lacking

My expectations were high but they were not met. The tent sites in camp C were the worst I’ve seen in a TN state park. They are on top of each other and on a horrible incline. They are tiny and I would not recommend. The RV sites in the other camp areas seemed like better options. They had 2 trails down which had both of the bridges and we had no idea till we got there. We enjoyed finding smaller trails that we found as to the bigger over populated ones advertised.

Decent

The campground was well kept, bath house clean. Signs and paths for hiking were very confusing.

Well kept

The tent sites were well kept. They are gravel pads with a grill and fire ring. They are right on the water with easy access to put in a kayak. And close to a boat ramp if bringing a boat. It’s shaded. The bath house is a bit of a walk and they have restrooms only, no showers.

TREE CANOPY!!

We were in primitive site I and it was a perfect spot to camp on a hot day. The sun never touched our tent. They offer kayak rentals and they are good sturdy ones at a reasonable rate. There is no swimming but we enjoyed fishing. They have A honey locus tree on one of the trails which was cool. I had never seen one. They are pet friendly and pets are allowed leashes on all the hiking trails. The animals are not scared of humans or dogs. We had squirrels, birds, deer and turkey join us at our camp site.

Breathtaking

Smaller standard campsites but laid out nicely and not over crowded. Bathhouse is beautiful with cedar stalls. Lots to do with the hiking. Waterfalls were beautiful and everyone we talked to was super helpful and nice. Grounds are well maintained without taking away from the natural beauty.

Free to camp

It is a first come site but well worth checking out. The couple that stays at and maintain the camping area are nice and do an amazing job. Trails to hike that are challenging but not too hard for kids of multiple ages. Pretty water falls not far from the camp site. History and adventure!
