Elijah Clark GASP: Walk-In Site 8

Elijah Clark is a great place. Easy to get to, and you still have cell service. Great playgrounds for kids, plus mini golf and kayak rentals. Many sites are waterfront.

I highly, highly, highly recommend the walk-ins. Suitable for car campers who don’t mind making a couple trips to the car. The sites are very close to the parking spots.

Site 8 has a great view of the lake, but isn’t directly on the water. Just downhill of the site is a boat slip for a kayak or canoe. If renting a kayak form the park, it’s not too far to paddle from the boat ramp where the kayaks are kept to the slip by the site.

Bathrooms for the walk-ins are below-average, aged, but more or less clean, as long as you don’t mind a few bugs.

Hiking is limited, but the little historical to-dos are fun. Check their calendar before going; they often have fun things going on over the weekend.

Great Experience

The staff was very polite and patient with as busy as it’s been with The Masters” in town. Facilities by our campsite very clean and the views of the Savannah River are spectacular. Lots of cool things to do at this park. Very kid and dog friendly!! So great place for families.

Friendly. Fun. Relaxing.

Set up well for families with children… room to ride bikes, scooters, skateboards; playground; putt putt course; trails to walk; beach areas all around the camp ground for easy access to the water. Kayak rentals.

Bathrooms were generally clean. Campsites a relatively flat. Good picnic tables at each site. Not every site had a pole for a lantern or trash bags to hang from. Fairly good tree coverage around the campground for shade and hammocking.

Great for fishing!!

This is the perfect park if you want to take your boat along! Lots of space to dock your boat at a waterfront site. Very nice bath houses, clean and updated. Large sites and large open yard behind it, great for dogs to run and kids to play!

Good for relaxing

We were on sites 103 and 104. Lake access was down a bit of a hill but manageable. The sites are almost buddy sites and you can drive between them.

Twice in less than a year!

What's a great place to stay!!! Beautiful colors for the fall, waterfront campsites, water and electric hook ups and back-in AND pull-through spots available. The bathrooms with shower stalls have AC and heat no matter the time of year you go. Trails to hike, dog friendly, canoes and kayaks for rent and close enough to a town to drive in to if you tire of campfire meals and want a really good margarita or need a grocery store to grab anything you may have left behind.

Beautiful and Fun

We have tent camped here twice at the walk in camp sites. The first time we were on sites 2 and 3 during a busy weekend. Second time we were on 3 and 4. I would definitely recommend 4 as the best walk in site by far. We had a group of 8 and 2 large tents that we were able to put side by side in between 2&3 and 3&4. There is a lot of room to spread out. Just a few yards away from 4 is a water bank where you can row a canoe up to easily if you decide to rent or bring your own canoe. They have canoes and kayaks for rent. $15 for 4 hours. $25 for 8 hours (8-5). The kids had so much fun with that. It is first come first serve starting at 8 am. Campsites 1-4 are all waterfront. I would not recommend the other sites at all. Very small and on a hill. You have to park at a designated area but you are able to bring your car down to unload. The bathrooms are a short walk up a hill which is fine but when you have to go badly it can feel like forever. The bathrooms in the walk-in site are bad compared to the RV sites. The showers are very small and pretty gross. There is a leak in the ceiling above the women's bathroom that drips over both stalls which is very unpleasant because everything is just so wet and dripping on you. Ended up having to use the men's at one point. Overall we really enjoyed our trips. The water view is beautiful. Despite the bathroom I would highly recommend this park.

Spacious site with incredible views

We closed out September with a 5day/4night stay on site #110. I know everyone raves about 92-100 but I truly believe 110&112 were amazing especially if your camping with friends.

We stayed M-F so campground 2 was pretty empty and we were able to let the kids ride their bikes and play ball on the road.

Beach access from #110 is perfect and we basically set up an annex from our main camp in the beach. I definitely recommend bringing your kayak or boat as you could “dock” them in the little cove.

If sunrises are your thing #110 and #112 provide an amazing spot to watch the sun come up over the tree lined lake.

Bathhouse by #110 & #112 was in great condition and was the unisex style with one toilet and sink and some had a shower. Facilities were very clean, however I never noticed a camp host cleaning them while we stayed.

Ice and firewood could only be purchased at the visitors center at the front of the park which wasn’t the most convenient to camping in campground 2. Other state parks we’ve been to the camp host has these items inside the campgrounds.

We had exceptional weather for camping on the lake 50/60 lows and upper 80s during the day which made our stay even more perfect.

Great lake front campground

Spent Fri-Sun (Aug 28-30) in site #55 on campground #1 loop.  We were on the west side of the loop and the last site directly on the water.  It is a back-in site and was wooded with a nice view.  We loved this spot, so much quieter than the rest of the loop.  This lake is all about boating so most of the sites are already packed in, then throw in most sites have a camper plus a boat on them and it can seem crowded.  From our site we could get in the water and use our SUP boards and swim around.  This spot is right between the bath house and dumpsters - about 2 min walk.  We would definately go back here and stay in the same area we were in.  There is a little beach and dock closer to the visitor center that was a 3/4 mile hike/walk each way (but we just swam at out site).

Would recommend Site #54, pull-through that will have you facing the lake and quiet.

Unorganized

We arrived on a Saturday morning to reserve a walkin site that was available online. Paid for the site at the office only to arrive at the site and see that it was already taken, along with all the others.  Went back to the office to inform them and then were told the ranger would go check on it. Drove back to the office an hour later to be told that the site was actually the people who were already there, even though it was available in the computer. Offered a $7 refund and a different site not next to the water, like we wanted. It was poor communication all the way around and the campground was overly crowded more than the allotted cars per campsite at multiple sites. Archery activity was canceled for that day, but the people in the office had no idea why. Not on my list of places to go back to.

Positives for the park, sunsets over the lake were gorgeous and the bathrooms were nice.

Camping within history

From the main entrance is a winding wooded road to the main store. There you find friendly and helpful staff, parking for vehicles and campers, a store with all your basic needs and other little goodies. Firewood and propane are also available. Inside the store they also have a mini library you can borrow from and next to that a nature area with a live snake and turtles. Our site was easy to find, level and best of all near the waters edge. The kiddos enjoyed playing putt putt, the playground and the beach area. There is also plenty of history to see, experience and learn about.

Lack of privacy and more

Several things turn me off of this campground. First, the campsites offer absolutely no privacy or separation. Second, we paid for a premium site, however, our site (#65) flooded and became clay-muddy when it rained. It was also difficult to find due to poor labeling. Third, many of the sites did t take advantage of the view of the lake by having the hookups on the “wrong” side of the site.

Great lakefront site

We had a true adventure when we stayed there. The place was beautiful we camped overlooking the lake. The bathrooms were spotless. We do advise if your in a tent maybe not taking a direct lakefront spot because we literally had to tie down our tent to anything including our car because it got so windy from the winds across the lake.Otherwise it was a great spot to stay. You can go swimming in the summer too we went when it was still cold so no swimming for us.
